Im not sure if this question has been asked before, but ill ask it anyway: Is downloading stuff off of rapidshare trackable?

yes it is if your online your trackable. also the server would log your ip adress if you download that file. but with my experience the mpaa/riaa dont monitor it just use peer guardian 2 it block most bad ip adresses.here is the download link if you want it.

there are but this is the easiest one to use the only other thing i could say is to use a proxy server and that will keep you a little safer.here is a website that updates often with proxys.

if you dont know what a proxy server is it basically acts as a middle man getting and sending your data so the website reads that ip insted of yours.
but you should be fine using rapidshare. aslo if you can afford it i recomend that you get an account with www.rapidshare.de it is highly worth it no 1 hour wait times.
for the mods i only included the link to rapidshare because there are a couple of frauds out there that i have seen of it.

do you really want to work with a proxy? anything transmitted through there can be recorded and possibly used against you later on.

Auslander is right about the proxy recording everything that is the down side of proxys. i bought a rapidshare account and i was really worth it no wait times and no bs to deal with like wait times and stuff like that.

well at the most, i get 2 albums a day. so even without a proxy or peer guardian 2, i dont think theres a very high chance of getting caught. what do you guys think?

And...you're dumb...ok, well, you're talking out your butts.
Rapidshare is NOT p2p, you're a 1x connection to the server and no other concurrent computers, so no anti-sharing entities can connect to you during the transfer.
Theoretically they could subpoena the connection records of rapidshare, but because rapidshare shows due dilligence by deleting copyright infringing files, they get left alone.

i use peerguardian 2 on all my downloads because i have seen that sendspace has a lot of RIAA activaty.

whats sendspace? how do you know if something had alot of RIAA activity? i was just thinking that the RIAA has better things to do than monitor what people download through rapidshare, and instead track down the people that are frequently using limewire and other P2P programs.

sendspace is just like rapidshare only differant site but same concept.i know because when i am downloading files on sendspace peerguardian 2 goes crazy.as for the RIAA they dont really care what you use as long as they get you.

does peer guardian "go crazy" when downloading stuff on rapidshare? im just saying that the RIAA should be focusing more on the major P2P networks and not things like rapidshare. do you know any other programs that work like peer guardian 2?

hmmm ok let me clear up what i am saying. they do not watch everything on the server just a lot of it but i have noticed a lot of it more on sendspace where as rapidshare i may only see 1 or 2 files out of 10 i download have activity on them and you are right that they do put more effort in the bittorrent and limewire areas but they do also monitor stuff like rapidshare just not very much. and there is another program like peerguardian 2 but its name currently escapes me.
