I burned a bunch of disc a cuople months ago with the same blanks and no problem. I go to burn another DVD today and waste 4 disc with same error. See below. Please help.
I can't think of anything that has changed in last 2 months to make it not work. Blanks are from same 50 pack I was using earlier.

Even though your firmware is up to date looks like your drive doesn't like the Ritek 16x (memorex maybe?) you are using - may be hit or miss. See them pop up alot in failed burn logs.
Better to use would be Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.
Take the burn speed down to 8x also.

May or may not be playing into this problem but Nero's InCD can sometimes cause conflicts. If you're not using it uninstall it and run the CleanTool.

If as binkie7 has suggested your discs are made by memorex then you DO have a problem with them. binkie7 knows what she is talking about so I'll just refer you to this thread about crappy discs,

I bought a case of 50 and had no trouble with the first 20. then 4 in a row burn bad after I don't use it for a month?

I downloaded the update and tried my 5th disc. Got this one from 2nd from bottom. Same result. Oddly, it is burning to the same spot everytime (about a half inch from center) and I have tried copying other dvd's also and still stops the same place.

YOu're burning too fast on those crappy disks of yours... If you won't buy new media, like reccomended (by, now, 3 members), then burn @ 4-8x speed!

Change the burn speed in Shrink. When you click backup - click on the burn settings tab to take the speed down.
As posted earlier Ritek 16x pops up alot in failed burn logs even with updated firmware on the burner. Consistency may also not be the same throughout the spindle. That's why we recommend the tried and true brands that we do.

I'll try that, but the thing I can't get over is that I didn't have any problems a month ago and now nothing will burn. Something's different with my computer.

Try the lower speed - just because a disc says it's rated 16x doesn't mean that's the best speed to burn it at.
Keeping up on the pc maintenace bit? Like disc cleanup, defrag, virus and spyware scans?
Give the free ImgBurn a go to burn.
Use the build mode to burn the video_ts folder.
You can also get a log from it - just press 'L' before you begin.

I just burnt a disc i burnt last month at 16x with no problems. So, that means there is something wrong the disc I am copying. Thoughts?

Tried burning a new movie after success with the one I burned last month and got this.
What about that high compatability mode? What's that.

The whole movie burned perfectly except the credits. It starts skipping right at when the credits start. This is different because before it didn't work at all.

Hi all
Forgive me, I'm not as savvy as most of you at this.....I have a Dell Latitude w/ a SONY DVD+-RW DW-D56A, running Nero 7 (7.00.1461). It seems like my firmware is current. I can burn CD-Rs but when I try to burn DVD-R discs I get a illegal disc failure message, having tried 2 diffent brands of discs. My log is below; can anyone (please) make any sense of it? Thanks much for any advice/help!!

First thing let's edit out the serial # - top of log and begins w/ 5C.
What other discs have you tried besides the TDK's?
Firmware is current but this drive had an update since mid 2005.
Laptop burners can be a bit picky so try taking the burn speed down to 4x and see if that helps.
Nero can use an update the latest is 7.5.0.9a.
Anything change pc wise since you were last able to burn dvd's?
