Just started looking at burtning my own stuff.
I have a Sony DRU-500a burner, and it doesnt seem to like the DVDs I have : 2x 4.7 GB DVD-RW.

Is there any way I can get them to work together?
Im using Nero Buring ROM SE (v 6)

Hi Redbyte
You might just need a firmware update - it's an older drive w/ the last update over 2 years ago. The latest is 2.1a. Here's a link.

You can check which version you have in Nero. Open SmartStart and go to Nero ToolKit>InfoTool. Pick the drive tab. There is a field there that will list the firmware version.

You can also check who made those DVD's you are using there also. Just pop a blank in and check the disc tab. The media might be part of the problem too.

You can also post a failed Nero log - just need the last one.
Look here for them: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.
Just be sure to edit out the serial # - usually begin w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.

Hiya ,
Ive ran the updates etc, and the DVD-RW is listed in the InfoTool as a writable format.
Only thing I can see is that te Lowest write speed for the burner is listed as 4x, yet these discs I have are 2X. Will that cause a failure?

4x is the highest burn speed for this drive on -R media.
Here's the max speeds the drive supports
4xDVD-R
2xDVD-RW

2.4xDVD+R
2.4xDVD+RW

So post the Nero log (see post above) and we can take a peek.

Yes you should finalize/close the dvd to help w/ playback on the player. Some players won't play discs that aren't finalized plus some players can be picky w/ RW media.

You might just be better tying to find some 8x or lower -R disc like verbatims or made in japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

Oh and you're welcome!

Something small is ruining my fun!!
Bought some DVD-R and reburnt, and it still wont play in my DVD player. I have other DVDs (DVD-R) that a friend burnt for me and they play ok.
Will the burn speed have an affect on the ability to play in aplayer?

We don't want to ruin to fun :)
Burn speed can have an affect esp higher burn speeds but for your drive the max is 4x on -R so may be more of media compatability w/ the player.

What media did you use?

Play the disc back in the pc too - make sure it at least plays in the burner.

Yeah I think you have a snobby player - (they can be fickle too :))

Datawrite uses different manufacturers so sounds like your player doesn't like who made them. At least the burner does so that's 1/2 the battle :)
So try some of media posted above.
