Hey. I know nothing about troubleshooting burning problems, and I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm trying to burn a game to a DVD-R. I tried just adding the files to the compilation and burning and i got the illegal disc error. I also tried making an image of those files, then burning the image, with the same results. Here is the log file from burning the files. I'm hoping it's an easy fix. I got a little feedback about the "book type", but i don't know what it means. If I just need to use a different kind of CD, let me know. Thanks in advance!!

your firmware for your sony DW-D22A is out of date.... install BYS3 firmware.... get it here:

close down some of your window programs running in the background... you're using too much memory (RAM). don't multi task, go online and even shut down your anti virus program while burning.

Nero or your burner doesn't like the disk you're using! Sony should be a decent disk. is this an 8x disk or 16x disk?

I probably sound so stupid asking this question. I got the file to update my firmware, but i don't know how to run it. it's a .bin file.

i probably do have way to many things running while i'm trying to burn. i'll close them next time.

the cd says it's 1x-16x.

you mean your disk is a DVD-R, 16x Sony disk. that's your problem because here is your burner:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?...0&Search=Search
and it shows that you can burn a DVD-R, 8x disk not a 16x disk..... so I guess you really need that firmware update. And that might not cure your problem...... try using a different disk ..... preferably an 8x disk. And of course use quality media....follow the Made In Japan rule! Check the label of the box or spindle and make sure they are MIJs! Verbatim is the only exception to the rule, they are top notch media, and make in Taiwan/Singapore. Here is a media guide for you:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?...0&Search=Search
this guide is not 100%, in my opinion.... I disagree with their listing on TDK...... but that's ok.... it's a good indication of what's good and not so good out there. Use Nero InfoTool for find out what your media manufacturers IDs are of your disk. good luck.

Ok. my cds were made in taiwan. i'll make sure to get MIJs from now on.

You didn't answer my question about the .bin file. How do I open/run it?

I'm sorry for the delay about your bin file for the firmware update.... if you go here: http://dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm#DW-D22A
download the update for the sony dw-d22a and in the zip file you will see a readme.txt file and it will explain how to do the installation of the firmware. make sure you don't have any disk in the drive while doing the update.

good luck.

read that readme.txt file.... and here is HOW TO FLASH YOUR DRIVE:
