Hi. I have a netgear router(MR814v2) and a netgear wireless card (MA521) for my laptop. Everything worked fine yesterday. I got internet on my desktop and on my laptop. However, somebody else was going to bring a laptop to my house so I went into my router settings and changed something. I do not fully recall what I changed, but I think all I did was authentication type to open system. This sounded like the right option to chose. I do not have a security code(WEP key) for my router. Not only did the internet not work on my friends laptop, but now I am unable to get it on my laptop. I went back to my router settings, and I changed the authentication type to automatic. I do not remember if this is what it originally was. This still did not work. I have fiddled with the settings but I still can not get internet access on my laptop. On my laptop, when I go into the settings program that Netgear supplies, (not Windows wireless manager) I scan to see what networks are available and my router network is shown. Even if I click on connect to that network, I can't connect. I do not know what to do now.
Normally, I would continue to mess around with the settings and search online, but this is finals week in school for me and I REALLY need internet access on my laptop. If anybody has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Im not familiar with netgear but what I have seen it looks very basic and not alot to change, but in any case try to reset your router to default settings or try to hit the reset button in the back of the router and go from there.

Try plugging an ethernet cable from the computer to that router. Just want to make sure the firmware didn't get corrupted. I had that exact same router, and it is a true POS, so I wouldn't rule that out.

Have you tried resetting the router after making the changes back to what they should be? That is also necessary on Netgears.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.
