I just received a dialog box telling me that my Nero Ultra Edition has its DVD-Plug-In expired. Can someone explain what this is and what it does when trying to create a DVD?

Hi 1433z
The plug in gives you the option to 'make your own dvd video' in Vision.
You can transcode avi's, mpeg, wmv etc to dvd compliant video that will play on standalone dvd players.

Sounds like you have an oem version of Nero that came w/ a drive.

Here's a bit from Nero on it - link

binkie7,

Hi!

You hit on something that's already driving me nuts. It seems Nero saves as an AVI file. They are very large. I used Decrypter to get the DVD on the hard drive and then worked from there. In appears that in the end a program called "Womble" may be the best way to go. I used it sometime ago but my "free trial version" ran out. For the cost against aggravation, it may be the best bet.

Working trying to cut commercials from the video I found that the editor in Nero is not precise enough to get a good finished product, its very difficult to get down to the split-second needed.

I have to agree with you there 1433z on the editting w/ Nero Vision.
Played with it some on commercials and it was quite a pain. At times it didn't like cutting the length of the commercials - they were too long for it to handle :)

Never heard of Womble so can't tell you anything about that but if you used it before and like it may be you best bet.

Nero doesn't convert to AVI - it will convert an AVI to dvd video, mp4 etc. But if you had and AVI & converted it yes they do tend to get much bigger!
