Hey guys,
I have burned about 500 Dvd's with my benq1620 dvd burner. However recentley I have began getting a lot of coasters. The dvd's get between 10-50% done and then error. I have tried using 3 different programs (Nero, DVD Shrink, and sonic), two different media (Verbatium and Arita) and 3 speeds 4x, 8x, and 16x. All combinations lead to the same performance. My computer is a 2.0 GHZ Pentium 4 with 512 Mb ram. If you have any other questions please ask. I have been battling this for nearly 25 discs. I FEAR MY BURNER IS DYING. Thanks and here is my error log.

Hi dbkid13
Here's 2 suggestions for you:
Recorder: <BENQ DVD DD DW1620> Version: B7U9
Update your firmware to the latest one -
B7W9
Right now all that's showing in the log is Media type: DVD+R . No media info listed. Firmware update may help this.
Nero version: 6.3.1.25
Update Nero to 6.6.0.18.
Package 1
Package 2 (recode, vision)
Give those a go and let us know.

Thanks for the quick update, downloaded and installed the firmware and now downloading the Nero stuff. I have dsl so it will be a while. I will give an update as soon as I get there.
I downloaded version 6.6.1.4 before you posted, is there a difference between that and 6.6.0.18, or is the one just a little newer.
Sam

Go with 6.6.0.18 - it's the last version of 6 that autoburns w/ Shrink.
Shrink doesn't have it's own burn engine so it's uses Nero's.
So if you install 6.6.1.4 and use Shrink picking your burner under 'select backup target' you'll get a 'cannot connect to trf' error.

Ok since you now have 6.6.1.4 installed - when you go back to 6.6.0.18 you'll need to uninstall Nero and run the Clean Tool then install 6.6.0.18.
But 1st the burn error - this last one you almost made it.
Which discs were you using? Stick with the Verbs over the Arita.
Physical memory : 510MB
Free physical memory: 29MB
Memory in use : 94 %
Way to low on memory on this log. So no multitasking and close any unneeded programs.
Burn process failed at 16x
Take it to 8x.
Still fails using the Verbs then try this free burning program - ImgBurn.
Use the build mode to burn the files.

Okay, I tried a few more times and got more coasters. I restarted my computer and turned off everything so I had lots of memory avialable. I REALLY THINK THAT MY BURNER IS DYING. Because it was working fine and now its having trouble. Here our my latest error reports.

You've probably wasted enough discs to pay for a new burner. Since you have been having no problem before with all the burns, I imagine it's your burner too.
@Binkie7
With my Benq 1650s all it says in the logs is +R media. But I know the burners knows the media, because it lists all the brands I'm using in QSuite. My firmware is the very latest also. I think this a trend in Benq burners with Nero 6.6. Does anyone else get all the Info in their Nero log with a BenQ? I'm using Nero 66018. Have seen others complaining about this.

Well it looks like my burner was on its last leg. It just made some wierd noises durning my last burn and now wont eject or do anything. Its time to search for a new one (this ones 2 years old). I am thinking Nec3500 but unsure of what all is out there anymore since I have not been in the market for two years. Any good review sites???

@garmoon
You coud be right about the media not showing up on the BenQ even though it recognizes it. See that in a few NEC's too.
Plus don't see many BenQ having burn problems.
Just a bit annoying when you trying to read a log :) Darn them!
@dbkid13
Yep sounds like it's on it's last legs since it's making noises and not wanting to eject the disc.
Another one to add is LiteOn - booktype right out of the box just like the BenQ.
