could i get away with a 400Watt ps?

i'm getting a new computer for the christmas, not all the parts will be in right away... in fact the case i ordered is on backorder... so that means the powersupply isn't going to be there on christmas day...

here's the core setup:

pentium d930
radeon x1600 sli (yeah that's right i get two bitches)
and two gigs of i think pc 4200 maybe 5200 if my parents were in a spendy mood

a couple of sata hard drives and a dual layer dvd writer/ reader

my question is this:

can a 400 watt power supply suffice

check this it does all the math for you. a guess, i would say, pentium d and xfire, around 500w min.

2 things to note;

one high end card will give you more performance than two mid range models.
ati cards are cross fire so your mainboard needs to be an ati chipset not nvidia(sli).

so two ati cards won't work at all or just not sli?

EDIT:
nevermind, i found out that one pcie radeon card can work in an nforce mobo but you can't run two unless it's nvidia.

thanks so much for informing me on the difference of xfire and sli. i just saved wasting time trying to sell my x1600 and i'll probably just go with a higher end nvidia card so that way i can sli them later on

sli thats nvidia and the same purpose is crossfire to ati, thats two cards to have better frame rates.

yes it will work.............for a while.

ive got a x1950xtx that requires a minimum of 450w stated by sapphire. and they recomend a 600w or more, if you go crossfire...

I originally planned on getting a 1000w PSU but my budget wore thin with other expenses

it's ALMOST 600W and i am considering overclocking but if it's not safe with this psu then i wont:

here's what i have:
Single Processor
High End Desktop
Intel Pentium D930 Overclocked to 3.6 ghz and at 100% utilization
1 Stick of DDR2 SDram
Two Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT SLI cards
2 Sata Drives
DVD-r/ CR-r Combo Drive
a Pcie x1 sound card
2 80mm Fans and 2 120mm Fans
and the power supply utilization is at 100%

is that seriously all i need to power this thing??
