I seem to have an issue in either the burning or the ripping part of backing up movies. I am not sure which it is, because after I am done burning it the movie either does not work (not even able to be read in the DVD player), or the whole movie is full of skips. I've tried multiple programs, multiple media. I use DVD Shrink normally, if that fails, I use it along with AnyDVD, if that fails, I try different variations often looked up on this website. I use DVD Shrink to burn the DVDs as well.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

cool..

thread teleported to Nero forum.

if it's Nero 6, let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

if it's Nero 7, let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '5C80' or similar.

Either way you can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

- so far unable to verify if the firmware for this burner is up to date or not, got some info on your burner & similar burners here -

...so don't know if we can improve burning via updating firmware, we'll have to just attck the rest of the logfile..

- hmmm, we already know the discs are skipping on playback, maybe we should do a CRC scan ie check one of those discs you've already burnt, for corruption. see here for info - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/431362/2609745 (and the reply to that one)

- CDRALW2K.SYS is part of Roxio. try uninstalling Roxio (doesn't always play well with Nero), then you might need to fully remove using Roxio Zapper - http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

Basically, try all the suggestions, then try to burn another movie, but only do a Simulation burn (so as to not waste any more discs) and post that section of logfile..

the funny thing is, I do not have anything from roxio on my computer, I also checked to make sure, and it "zapped" easy cd creater which i was unable to find

is my drive bad? it came with my notebook, i have an ABS

but i will try these things and try to burn a movie

i also burned at 2.4 because i thought possibly the movies weren't burning right at 8x

alright, so after burning it...
it works on one dvd player, but not the other one.
it reads but then it skips like an incredible amount... could it just be the dvd player? or is it the DVD?

not sure, that's why i suggested doing a CRC scan of that or a.n.other troublesome disc... if there's corruption on there we can narrow down the problem more

you might have it already installed, look up the 'nero toolkit' shortcuts (and see if 'Nero CD-DVD Speed' is there, then run a 'scandisc' on the disc that skips.... if there's corruption you'll get little red blocks on the scan... and that's where the skipping should be...

..if there's no corruption in theory there shouldn't be any skipping, ie the player might just not like those discs...

alright, so i did the disc check and it was 100% good

but the dvd still fails to play correctly in the dvd player

my brother using a mac burned the same movie and it successfully played in that dvd player

could it be the files when i rip the dvd?

well that's a better burn log, plus i see the +R discs are being correctly 'booktyped' to dvd-rom

The only "MIT" media I trust is Verbatim. Otherwise you're better off with 1st class media:
Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Hitachi Maxell (Made In Japan by Hitachi Corp.)

More info here http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

EDITED to insert media link.
