I'm new here and I attempted to find an answer to my question in other threads to no avail. So if this is something that's been answered previously, please accept my apologies.

Anyway, I recently purchased a copy of Nero 6-THE ULTIMATE ALL-IN-ONE ( 00700 ) from Amazon.com. The reason I purchased this older version of Nero is because I heard it had unlimited MP3 encoding included. In fact, upon opening the software it says right on the disc, "Unlimited MP3." However, when I installed I can find nothing that allows me to encode my Audio CDs to MP3. I had a previous version of Nero that came with a Sony DVD burner and it allowed it until it expired. It was also easy to find / use in the menu. Now I'm left with a piece of software I cannot use to encode MP3s. Everything else included with this software works beautifully.

Does anyone have any advice on this situation?

Thanks so much in advance.

Dale

This sounds like a plan! Can't wait to try it when I get home. Is it strictly MP3pro or is there just an MP3 encoder? I was under the impression that MP3pro was a "trial" thing.

Thanks!

I checked the settings for MP3 and MP3Pro...... MP3 I can set it to 128kbit, 44100Hz, stereo where MP3Pro is up to 96kbit,44100Hz, stereo...... I think 128kbits are equal to CD quality ..... and it can go higher. But honestly I don't know the difference between the two other that this. If that makes a difference.

Al versions of Nero have unlimited MP3 capacity. Just download an MP3 Lame plugin from:

Okay I did everything that everyone told me and I found the part that encodes MP3s. However, when I went to do it, it said I needed to register. When I attempted that I kept getting an error. So I wrote the people at sales@nero.com and they fixed the problem and told me to do it again. So I registered, it seemed to work. About 10 minutes later I received an E Mail with a new serial number. I went to Nero Express...went to the help feature and on to "Enter New Serial Number." However, when I did this it gave me an error saying I had an illegal disc or something. WTF? I paid good money for this. Any and all questions send to Nero inquiring about this have since gone unanswered. Needless to say, I've had a piece of software in my possession that I've not been able to use properly since I purchased it 2 weeks ago. Any suggestions besides getting a refund?

If you only want to encode to MP3, you can re-install the OEM version that came with the Sony. This is assuming that it was only the MP3 encoder that expired after 30 goes.

Add the MP3 Lame plugin from:
http://www.bitburners.com/Nero_Audio_Plugins_by_MauSau/.
Unzip and add the nxLame.dll file into
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins.

Now there may be a problem with going back to the OEM version, because of the new install you have done, but you can try it first.

There are lots of posts on AD about using the Nero CleanTool to remove versions of Nero - so have a look at those if you need help doing a cleanup. If your re-install doesn't work you can do some further registry edits to cleanup.

If it is only MP3 encoding you want, there are other ways to go, like EAC, RazorLame etc

Forgive me, but I'm somewhat naive to this, but I was wondering if I install the MP3 Lame plug-in you mentioned, will it be a part of my existing Nero (saving files area) or is it a different application altogether?

I use a free program called "Audiograbber" for encoding to MP3. It's works well for me & it's free.

I've been using Windows Media and I like it but the problem with this is, it rips my selected songs from an album to MP3 by first creating a "band folder" then inside that folder is the "album name folder" and then inside that is the song. That system is great if I'm taking every song from the album and such, but if I'm just picking 2 songs from each album to rip and then burn to a disc, I have to go into each folder and move the individual songs all into a single folder so I don't have a disc filled with 300 folders on it. Does anyone know how to correct THAT issue?

@Dale0770,

Don't know about WMP, but if you use the LAME plugin for Nero, it becomes seamless - just part of Nero. You can pick and choose tracks to encode, the settings VBR,CBR etc and store them where you like.

Also, when you make a MP3 disk you can pick from anywhere. Just be aware that Nero likes to put MP3s on a disk in alphabetical order. You can prefix your files with a track number if you like. Start at 001 or 01 and then Nero will put them in the order that you have numbered.

After you download the MP3 encoder from:
http://neroplugins.afterdawn.com/

Unzip and add the nxLame.dll file into
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins.
This is based on 3.93.1 LAME. Not the most recent, but it works for me.

Start up Nero.
When you select Convert Audio Cds to Audio Files or Enocde Audio Files, you will have a Lame MP3 option and be able to set lots of parameters. For simplicity and good quality, I suggest using Alt Preset Standard.

Don't just limit to only MP3s. The encoders are a tremendous resource. Try them

One final observation, after ripping some songs on CD, I've noticed that under the Properties -> Summary -> Advanced of the MP3s there is no listings under the Artist / Album Title. So I tried to double click to add in the information but it wouldn't allow. Is this normal or a necessity for song tags later?

You should be able to edit this info if it is not protected.
After you get to Properties -> Summary -> Advanced click on the field to the right of the attribute. That is, for Album Name click (not double click)to the right of the "Album Name" text. There are fields to the right of the headings. You should be able to add info, such as comments in the comment field.

I'm not sure if this info is significant, but it is displayed when you hover over a file with the mouse. It probably is displayed when you flip through tag info on your player. I use MP3 in my car and I'm satisfied having the filename displayed.

That's what I was saying, it won't let me fill in the blanks. I couldn't figure out why the info wasn't there to begin with and when I tried to fill it in, it would not let me.

Here's some info on bitrate, taken from wikipedia.com

Audio (MP3)

32 kbit/s - MW (AM) quality
96 kbit/s - FM quality
128-160 kbit/s - decent quality, difference sometimes obvious
192 kbit/s - good quality, difference only heard by some
224-320 - high quality, nearly lossless

Other Audio

4 kbit/s - minimum necessary for recognizable speech
8 kbit/s - telephone quality
500-1,000 kbit/s - lossless audio such as FLAC
1,411 kbit/s - compact disc digital audio
