I had an .avi file, converted it with ImToo iPod movie converter. I have a 30gb ipod, and the newest version of itunes. After converting the movie to mp4, i added it to itunes which worked fine. however, when i tried to add it to my iPod, this message came up:
"___was not copied to this iPod... because it cannot be played on this iPod"
Any suggestions? It has done it with some music videos as well that were already mp4s.

I had this problem b4. all i did was shorten the name of the file i was putting into the ipod.
ex.Wwe - Tlc (Triangle Ladder Match) - Wrestlemania Xvi - Hardy Boyz Vs Dudley Boyz Vs Edge & Christian.mp4
i shortened it to WWE Wrestlemania 17 - Trangle Ladder Match.
and it started transfering.
So try and shorten the name of the file u wanna transfer.

While I've only encountered problems with long file names when adding them to iTunes, Snake's is particularly long so I could see that posing a problem.

I'm not really familiar with ImToo does it have settings that can be changed? Such as resolution, framerate, bitrate et cetera?

Look on Apples website under Tech Specs for the iPod and make sure your converted videos fit those constraints.

If your still having trouble post back and we can work from there :)

Alright, here are the properties from the original .avi file (I was checking the mp4 that I have already converted and I noticed the sound was out of sync, so i need to fix that too) :

Summary:
Duration: 01:34:08
Bit rate: 1036kbps
Video:
Format: mpeg4
Size: 576x304
Frame rate: 23.98fps
Audio:
Format: AC3
Bit rate: 192kbps
Sample rate: 48000Hz
Channels: Stereo

I can change all these settings in imToo. So what settings do i need to have it on so that the audio is in sync and it can meet the requirements of my 30gb iPod.

I am also using imtoo ipod movie converter and am having the same problem, im converting my files to mpeg4 with audio bit rate 96, video bit rate 1200, size 320x240 and 23 fps and i get the same error message as HalosGur1. The size of the files is roughly 700mg (they are full movies) and the duration is from about 1hr 30mins up to about 2hrs 20mins. WHY WONT IT WORK ON MY IPOD? Im getting very annoyed with it. I just changed the audio rate so it was the same or even less than the original rate. then it should be in sync. after that, you have to go into itunes and rightclick the movie and click 'convert selection' for iPod. It'll take about 3 hours, but at least it plays on there.

I have converted .swf to .mp4 to play with 80GB Apple iPod, using Super@erightsoft software but while playing the audio is coming after playing the video, I mean to say audio and video are not in sync.

Please let me know if any any params have to be changed to get audio and video in sync.

Video formats applied:
H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

You need to test with different fps. Try 24, because that's what I do with my videos. ;-)

Hi, I have a similar problem with a video 1:13:10 long, MPG format (converted to MPG using Videora iPod Converter). I tried to drag and drop the video from iTunes to my iPod, but a popup came up reading "'My Sassy Girl (Part 1)' was not copied to the iPod 'Ronald' because it cannot be played on this iPod." I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong...I've put plenty of videos on my iPod before with no hitches...I should have enough room for it...the title's not too long, and I'm not too sure about the details...not exactly tech-savvy enough to find that out. But any help would be appreciated!

You have to convert to MPEG-4 format, not MPEG.

Good evening all.

I am getting the dreaded "cannot be played on this ipod" message too.
I'm converting from MPG to MPEG-4 using Videora.
The conversion runs fine and the resulting video and audio play back correctly in Itunes 7, but Itunes will not download the video to my ipod.

I tried asking for support on the Redkawa forum and give the folks there credit for responding, though the tone of the replies was pretty short and, worse still, did not resolve the problem. The irritating thing is that one (and just one) file I converted the same way DOES download to my 30GB ipod and plays fine.

I'm attaching the header and footer of the Videora console log below and already shortened the MPEG-4 filename using "right-click/Get Info" on the file in Itunes.

Thanks in advance for any/all help or hints.

Make sure that you are adding the new converted file, not the old un-converted one. It doesn't transform your file into MPEG-4, it just makes a new file which is MPEG-4. In the settings you should be able to pick where you want the converted file to go after converting is done.

Thank you for the hint Jazo, but I'm don't have much doubt on that front for two reasons.

Firstly because Videora automatically executes an import of the converted file to Itunes.
This file gave me the "will not play" message.

Secondly, Videora writes the converted output MPEG-4 file to a specific directory called H264 which is nowhere near the source file directory. I deleted the file automatically imported to Itunes then did a file import to Itunes from the H264 directory. Still no luck.

One additional thought: when I try to export the video file from Itunes to the Ipod it takes quite a long time (20-30 sec) before the "will not play" message is dispplayed. I wonder if Itunes checks the file in some way and finds something it doesn't like? But what? I hope something in the log I posted above might lead to some ideas.

Anyhow - thank you again for your suggestion and please let me know if I might be doing something wrong even given the above.

Best regards
Amenon

Okay, I didn't know you knew THAT much about this, because we get alot of noobs around here. ;-)

I'm not sure what else you can do if the file is alreay MPEG-4, because there is no reason for it not to sync. Maybe a glitch in the firmware your running? Try updating or restoring the iPod and see what happens if nothing else works.

Thanks again Jazo - the good will is really appreciated.
But....
My %&&/8** videos are STILL not on my Ipod
AAAAARGH
Sometimes just I think forget it, it's not worth wasting any more time on...
But then one of the points of a 30gig Ipod is to be able to watch vids on it
:-(

Anyone else got any suggestions/hypotheses about resolving this problem?
Thanks in advance -

Just noticed something...

Dark Jello states that Ipod will support H264 files with maximum framesize of 320 x 240 pixels.

But the Header Section of my Console Log seems to say that the output file which Videora generated has framesize 320 x 260 pixels.

Hmmmmm - sounds suspicious.

Then again, the file in question has an .MP4 extention to its name, so maybe as an MPEG-4 file it should be within the 640 x 480 upper limit which Dark Jello mentioned for MP4 files.

I don't know what the distinction is between H264 and MP4. If there is a difference then I wonder why Videora writes an MP4 file into a directory which it calls H264. Maybe a file can be both.... ?

Questions...

1. Do you guys think my file is not in Ipod spec and this is the most likely reason Itunes won't export the file to my Ipod ?

2. If so, is it conceivable that Redkawa would develop their Videora SW to generate output files which do not respect the Ipod spec ?

3. As far as I know Videora gives the end-user no control over the output file framesize - is that right ?

4. Is there any good freeware package out there I could use to convert my MPG files into an Ipod-compatible format instead of Videora ?

As I referred to your post Dark Jello I would be very grateful for your comments on this.

Thanks in advance and best regards

Videora doubles as a program for both the iPod and the PSP, both are just about the same exact program, but the iPod and PSP have different video constraints.

I havn't used videora in a while but I am almost certain that you can make your own profile that will allow you to convert to almost any size/shape/form video file you want. Poke around a bit. I don't have it installed anymore or I'd check myself right now. I'm pretty sure you can though.

Long time no see fellas ;)

OK - thank you Dark Jello.

I've found the profile edit function in Videora and see that I can set the resolution params to 320x240 then save the profile.

It's 1 AM over here now and I need to get some sleep.

I'll try to run a conversion with these settings tomorrow and see what happens.

Will post back news one way or the other.

Thanks for the suggestion.

PS Any suggestion for an alternative freeware video converter if this attempt should not work ?
