About to loose it...in need of dvd ripping help!

Okay so I've been trying to backup my dvds, but have now run into mulitple problems doing so. First off, I dowloaded the programs needed by one of the guides on AD but when I went to step one to get the process going it would not acknowledge that I had a disk in the drive so I then tried Nero still won't recognize. Is it b/c of all these programs, or am I not specifying the correct drive (I have a laptop so I only have the one drive).
Second I'm using sony disk and something along the way led me to believe that they need to be formatted, if so how do I do this or is there another brand that of disk or program where I won't have to worry about that?
And well I'm not gonna worry about the issue with backing up my dvds until my computer will recognize that there is a disk in there. Thanks in advance,

Try this:
Go into the Device Manager, and find your burner. Right click on it, and then left click on "Uninstall". After it uninstalls, reboot, and let Windows detect new hardware, and install a new driver for you.
Sometimes this fixes this problem, and sometimes it don't.

As for formatting the disc, you only have to format RW (rewritable) discs. Don't use RW's unless you have to, for some reason. Most players won't play them anyway. Use a +R or -R disc
