Hi!
Hope you guys can help me, coz I've been reading guides and forums, and I can't figure it out!
I used to be big into backing up my dvds about a year ago so I'm not a complete beginner! Unfortunately I had to reformat my hard drive in the summer and things haven't been the same since!
Now my questions are regarding both Inside Man and Pirates of the Caribbean 2.
I used AnyDVD in background while ripping with DVD Decryptor, using Shrink (setting max file size to 3800MB) and burning with Nero. (I use Verbatim disks)
1) Thing is, I kept getting a failure which said it had a problem with the VTS_01_1.VOB file. I downloaded RipIt4Me, FixVTS and that seemed to work.
2) However, I now have a problem burning it seems (shrink with Nero):
20:02:18 #31 CDR -1135 File Writer.cpp, Line 304
Write error
It burns pretty much all the way to the end and then says it failed. The weird thing is, that it works on my combined TV-DVD player but not on a standalone DVD player!
Oh, and I have used 2 different DVD writers (internal and an external USB) and a separate DVD ROM and Sony discs as well as Verbatim.
What would you recommend?
Thanks
P.S Merry Christmas!

Sounds like a burning issue via Nero. The most common issues with Nero are:
* firmware (make sure to have the latest available to your drive)
* conflict of tools/softwares (i.e. Roxio, InCD and Nero)
* if using Nero, dump Roxio and IncD by uninstalling via it's Zap tool or Clean tool.

Well I don't have Roxio or InCD so I'll try to update the firmware.
Thanks

Ok.
I forgot to select 8x that time, but it had problems burning at a slow speed before even with Verbatim discs. But I will try updating Nero and giving it another go.
Thanks for your help!

Hi again!
Thanks for helping me out. I appreciate it!
Well I tried everything you said:
1) Updated drivers/firmware
2) Burn at 8x
3) Use verbatim
4) Updated Nero to the version recommended
5) Zapped Roxio
When I ripped Pirates of the Caribbean 2 with decryptor (+AnyDVD) I get the following messages:
a) Possible Structure Protection Found!
b) 1 area has been marked as 'suspect'.
c) Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary
It then proceeded to rip ok, but when I tried opening it with shrink I get the same message as before:
Invalid data in file VTS_01_1.VOB
I then repeated the process with a different original DVD (Starwars 3), which I know has protection and I managed to burn it before. I received NONE of the above messages and it worked just fine!
So I'm thinking, maybe there is another layer of protection that Pirates 2 and Inside Man have which makes copying it harder? If so how do I go about countering it?

iamrobot,
You are almost there. Try it this way.
1. Rip it
2. Then use VobBlanker(corrects the structure errors)
3. Then use Shrink
or you can use Ripit4Me and it will do most of it for you automatically. You can google for the program as it is free.

I have already used RipIt4Me, but I just get the stated burn error instead!
I will try to use VobBlanker.
If that doesn't work is it worth taking a look at DVDFab, PgcEdit, and PSL2 plugin?
Thanks

iamrobot,
If the above does not work it really is not worth it to try another ripper. Your error has nothing to do w/ the ripper
Here is a guide on how to use Ripit4me and if followed exactly you can do this movie.

Success!
Just letting you know I managed to back up both movies!
I used RipIt4Me in conjunction with DVD Decryptor, FixVTS and Shrink and it worked beautifully!
I selected 'in place' when using FixVTS and got the latest versions and that made it work i think.
Thanks for your help!!

Hey guys i'm new to the world of DVDs and such. I recently bought Pirates of the Caribbean 2, and i wanted to back it up cause my first copy got snapped in half. I took it off the DVD using DVD Decrypter and i fixed the file placement thing with FixVTS, but when i try burning with Nero it gives me this log:

Ok so i downgraded my Nero to 6.6.0.18 and i downloaded the RipIt4Me and i used it in conjunction with DVD Decryptor, FixVTS and DVD Shrink. All went well until it was time to burn the backup to Nero. Heres the log. Oh yeah, i'm trying to burn Pirates of the Caribbean 2.

Mylkal,
Try using Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blank media as the media you are using is CMC and it is some the worst. Your error that is showing is an illegal disk

I don't get it? What's the difference between the CD's? Is it brand? Cause the one i was using was from Memorex. Anyways, i put in a Memorex DVD +RW and apparently the burning is at 20% now. I really hope it works. But now i have around 200 of the previous DVD's from the same brand, and i'm wondering why they don't work? And can i at least use them for storing data then? halp!

You have 200 of the Memorex DVD's as you stated that do not work any longer. Most Memorex DVD's are made by CMC and they really are low quality DVD's. They might work today but as you have found out that they do not work later in life. That is why you need to use Quality blank media. Try the blank media I suggested. I have DVD's that I recorded 4+ years ago and they play fine but I used Quality blank media. If you are in the US, BestBuy usually has the Verbatim DVD's on sale at least 1 time a month and that price is less than what you would pay for the Memorex DVD's.
