emachines 5260 light problem ?

Hi all, this is a tricky one but any help would be appreiciated.
Well at the minute even though I have a full time job that doesn't concern computers, I enjoy learning about them and how to fix them or maybe sometime down the line I'd like to build myself a custom one! So I thought I'd get a few computer lessons. So today I had a guy out at my home teaching me how to install burners, RAM, modems,hard drives ect...
So everything went pretty ok until we were finished and turned on the pc. The pc booted up no probs but I noticed the little light at the front of the pc didn't light up or flash as the pc is doing it's thing and I also noticed the power button didn't light up either. People that are familiar with the emachines 5260 will know that the power button usually lights up blue, but it didn't.
There are three wires running from the face plate that should connect somewhere on the motherboard. At least one of the wires must be correct for the pc to start when you hit the power button but no lights.
The guy tried changing the wires around a few times but after awhile he accepted defeat.
Any of you guys know anything about this?

which series is that emachine as i just went thru all their series & no 5260 found?

Hi ddp, yes the model is emachines 5260.
I was chatting via txt chat to one of their customer service staff last night and he said yes it's definitely not wired correctly and to look at my motherboard manual.
Thing is, I didn't get a motherboard manual when I purchased it.
When I gave him the serial no, he couldn't find any info on it so it turns out it must be a uk model.
Best he could do was give me a link to the uk support site but they were closed last night.
I'm going to try get in touch with them now to get a link to the motherboard manual.
As I'm new to the hardware of a pc, I'm finding it hard how to find out what motherboard I have.
I even asked this "pc Tech" that was giving me lessons while the pc was open and he said "it's one of the numbers on one of those plates on the board"
Shur there was about 3 different little parts on the board with numbers on them. One had intel, another was something like smgc 12*****.
I'll try get in touch with a uk tech now. I'll keep posted on this and I think I'll take lessons from a different tech lol.

Just an update on this.
I was just chatting with a uk emachines support rep and after filling out that stupid form with name address and so on he told me he can't give me out any info and to get on to "pcservicecall" or something like that. Wtf? So I go to their website but as far as I can see there is no live tech support. It gives all the info on the pc including motherboard but I still can't make head nor tail of it by looking at the pic of the motherboard.
Makes me laugh, the guy from emachines wouldn't give me any help apart from saying "go to pcservicecall".

Hi ddp, yes by looking at that pic I'm almost positive thats the way the motherboard is set.
After reading the link I'm still confused as to what it means, the numbering of the pins.
If I remember correctly there is three wires coming from the front of my pc. The hard drive led, the power led and I can't remember what the other one is off hand but can open the pc up if needed.
At the end of these wires as you know there are little sockets connected. At the end of each of the wires there is a socket with two holes in it so it fits down onto two of the pins, so even when all wires are connected there are still a few free pins left on the motherboard.

Lol, ddp you have to be a genius :-)
I took more time to look at the guide and access it and just did what it said really and attached the sockets accordingly and bang it worked, both lights are back on working perfectly.
Thanks to yourself ddp and the other AD members and AD itself for the help. Two months ago I didn't know what drivers were or even a chipset lol but I'm learning slowly but surely. Just one more thing, will those little connectors be hooked up the same on all motherboards or different according to motherboard ?

teach & learn. those connectors on the wires are almost universal except for some boards that use 1 big connector with all the wires into it than plugs into the motherboard. the layouts are almost always different to each motherboard except to each manufacturer. remember all colored wires as in red, yellow, green, blue & sometimes white are the + side. black & sometimes white are the - side except for the power switch than doesn't matter which way the 2 pin connector goes in. merry christmas
