New PC Parts... No IDE HDD Detection... ?

Hi everyone,

I searched the threads and couldn't find anything that helped so...

I just bought new PC parts, which would be the P5WD2 motherboard, BFG GeForce 7600GT grafix card, Pentium D 805 2.66ghz CPU, G.Skill 1GB PC2-6400 [DDR2 800] RAM, and the Thermaltake Big Typhoon heatsink. I'm using a Seagate ST3120026A HDD for the primary boot disk and a Maxtor 300GB HDD as the secondary for data storage.

The problem I'm having is that the Seagate HDD and the Maxtor HDD won't get recognized in the BIOS as the Primary Master [the Seagate], and the Secondary Master [the Maxtor].

I also have a Sony DVD drive that gets recognized as the primary master, as the Seagate should. I have both the HDDs plugged into the RED EIDE ports on the P5WD2 MoBo. The DVD drive is plugged into the BLUE IDE port on the side of the motherboard.

Also, when I connect the Seagate drive to the BLUE IDE port, it comes up as the Third Primary Master... ?

Does anyone know how I could fix this so that the HDDs come up as the primary and secondary masters?

you probably haven't changed the jumper on the drives so that currently are set as master thereby conflicting with each other & both not seen by the bios. the blue connector is the primary & the red is the secondary ide port. change the sony dvd jumper to slave on the secondary ide port.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick responce. That worked to make the HDDs the primary and secondary but Windows XP isn't starting. Everytime I press enter to start Windows normally or in safe mode, it reboots... ?

Any ideas?

is this a fresh install or was the xp on the hd on another computer before?

It's the old install from when I used the other parts. I thought it might work without having to reinstall; is that what I need to do then [install a fresh copy of XP]?

You have to do a fresh install. Ive gone through this before where I changed my mb and cpu.

Yeah, definetly, you need a fresh install, if you want your old stuff, place that stuff as the slave, or just dont format, but then you lose My Documents..
