I have spent a few hours on several different occasions trying to figure this out when I stumbled onto this site. I figure this community might have the answer to my problem.

These were the 6 points TomMelee asked for in a different post so I figure they would be a few useful points to start with since I am also having a port forwarding issue.

1. What port do you want to use?: 22500

2. What is your local IP. : NOT your "static" IP (you guys toss these words around far too loosely, read the link in my sig for more info on that). It should begin 192.x. If you can't figure out how to get this number, respond "I don't know how to get this number." : 192.168.1.102

3. Do you HAVE a router? If so, brand/model. : Linksys BEFSR41v2

4. WHO is your ISP? Bell Sympatico

5. Do you have ANY software firewall in place? Windows firewall INCLUDED. If so, which one? Windows firewall (which I have tried disabled to see if it works? no luck)

6. Are there any other computers on your network? If so, how many?: 1 other computer

Currently I am getting the Red exclamation mark symbol in Utorrent 1.6

I have followed the tutorial for Port Forwarding and for Static Ips on www.portforward.com

If anyone has any ideas on how I can get my port to forward correctly. Please help me out. I am at a standstill.

Try port 34450 just because I do in utorrent and it works. Ensure that the ip address you made static is the same one you saw at ipconfig/all for the computer you have utorrent installed on and it was entered correctly in your router. If your router is wireless. direct connect it and in utorrent, try these settings: option>preferences>bittorrent - enable protocol encryption and check allow incoming legacy connections. On another note, when I first installed utorrent, the port in speed guide always showed as closed (red) and the connection light on utorrent's main page would show as red for about 10 -15 minutes and then turn green. After 2-3 weeks and no changes on my part, I have never seen a red light again so it just might be a matter of waiting to connect. Unlikely though as even the developer had never heard of this before.

well I have tried forwarding the port you suggested with no luck. As well I enabled the protocol encryption and check allow incoming legacy connections.

Don't get me wrong, my Utorrent works, but it goes considerably slower then if I had my computer directly connected to the modem.

Any other ideas on how to get the port forwarded correctly?

One more idea. In options>preferences>connection, uncheck UPnP, The port was just an idea, any over 10,000 should do. I just use that one in utorrent and know it works.

This is purely a guess but before you set a static ip, did you ever forward using the dynamic address and check the port in utorrent's speed guide before shutting down your computer? Unless your ip address changes every time you start your computer, you don't even need one. I've had a dynamic ip address for 3 years and only had to redo my forwarding twice and with utorrent, it's easy to check. Static ip's are fantastic but there's always a chance of an error but like I said, just a guess.

Thanks for the suggestion Mistycat and yea Iv tried that already. Iv used both my dynamic IP (which iv seen change once over the last 5 months) and a static IP which I set up (and I am using currently)

Any other ideas?

You could always connect your computer directly to the modem (taking the router out of the equation), open utorrent and check speed guide. If you still get a red light, your ISP is blocking you but I don't think Bell port throttles.

One more thing, if you receive a green light using only the modem, go here and get the "Torrent Firewalled Flowchart": http://www.plucky.org/download-central/p2p-tutorials/. It's by TomMelee of this site and will help you solve the vast majority of problems caused by using a router.

Get a Westell Versalink 327w.
its a modem which also doubles as a router.
