For the longest time I have been using DVDShrink with "Deep Analysis".

Recently noticed that Deep Analysis is only a 2 pass CCE.

I would like to rip my movies in the highest quality possible (without using a DL disc :P)

What combination of programs would give me the best picture quality?

Is there any reviews/comparisons showing pictures that can proves this ?

what am I to do.. if it was me and not you

The "best" way to get the best quality on any ordinary DVD-R or DVD+R (DVD5) is DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70 or ProCoder 2. Some preferred ProCoder 2, yet some rather used CCE SP 2.70 -- however, there's no doubt CCE SP 2.70 is faster than ProCoder 2. The choice is yours.

Below is what I used mainly for 3 hrs movies like: KING KONG, LOTR, SCARFACE, HEAT, etc.

For movies that has high compressions (i.e. 65% - lower on Video Quality):

* DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70 via 3 PASSES VBR

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Is there any reason to go above 3 passes??

No. I never go beyond 3 PASSES. Matter of fact, even jdobbs (the author behind DVD-RB Pro) said it's useless to encode more than 3 PASSES. However, the choice is yours.

Sorry, but I don't do downloaded movies nowadays, simply because the quality is not on par with ripped and encoded backups. I just ripped them and encoded them with DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70.

Are these programs freely available or will I have to "buy" them ?

Is quality of the Shrink movies bad? I find that the Recode and Shrink movies look great on at least a 42" screen and under. Yet to see them on a larger screen. I just use DLs on those movies that are worthy and have a lot of compression.

I have a 52" widescreen HDTV and Recode2 looks great down to 65 - 70% compression. I haven't tried any lower than that. I use DVDRebuilder/CCE for titles that require more compression than mentioned above... I know with CCE, I have put an entire DL episode disc (4 hrs or more) on a single layer disc with OUTSTANDING results... I don't foresee the need to buy DLs anytime soon!!!

See my quote above for best quality. Yes, I used nothing but DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70 when it comes to high compressions needed.

** rip the DVD with either DVDFab Decrypter or RipIt4Me
** enocode with DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70 via 3 PASSES VBR

Ok, so it must made into an ISO first before encoding... or is that just to encode it faster ?

Don't worry about the previous post.

I read your DVD-RB + CCE 2.70 guide... it worked a treat.

The quality of a 7GB DVD was fantastic, just what I was looking for.

Thankyou very much.
