External USB HD playback prob.

I got an external USB hard drive to connect to my new pliliphs DVD player. After ripping the .VOB files to the HD, it would play the file... but it would play it in slow motion. Should I convert it to another format? I really don’t want to loose any quality but if that’s the only way. Then what should I format it to? thanks
