So, I've got all these random files on my PC. Most are crap and need to go. some I want to keep. They don't seem to like hanging out on a hard drive for very long though, as they develop frozen frames and all kinds of weirdness.

So -- I'd like to weed out the bad ones and burn the rest to dvd. The few that are MPEGs I've managed to get ready for TMPEGEnc DVD Author.

The rest, which play in media player, won't work with TMPEGEnc. I'm guessing it's a codec issue? I saw a post about a codec pack, but couldn't find it. How do I get TMPEGEnc to accept the avis? Some are Divx, some are something else.

Also -- is there a tool to fix the frozen frames on video files?

Lastly, I understand I need to use GSpot to determine the codec used to encode the video, but not sure how to put that knowledge to use to get the file to work with TMPEGEnc.

Whew! I think that's it. feel free to ridicule if its nasty and too complex to make sense! ;-)

it`s more than likely a xvid codec -these can be tricky when using tmpegenc i usually convert the audio via vdub to wav 9 usually get a vbr message. Then tmp can convert them no problem

For frozen frames, you can use VirtualDub to determine which frame(s) is(are) bad, and then a little program called AVIdefreezer to fix it up. This often introduces a few secs of giberish to the video, but at least gets rid of the bad frame (which would also seize up TMPGEnc).

This little prog (as well as the Nimo codecpack) is available at www.divx-digest.com.

Good luck
