My computer is not recognizing any blank DVD Media. I don't know when or why this started happening, but I can no longer burn DVDs. I've tried four different types of DVD media, and none work. It can burn CDs, and recognizes DVD movies or previously burned DVDs, but it won't recognize any form of a blank DVD, and will not burn to it. I've gone through everything HP support has told me to do. Any ideas?

I would update your Nero to a more stable version of Nero 6..... version 6.6.0.18....... follow these directions:

Before udating to 6.6.0.18 I would save the serial #, uninstall Nero, then use the cleaning tools : http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Clean_Tools.html
then do a registry clean up(free registry cleaner, CClean: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloadpage.aspx?1) and defrag...... then reboot!

install package one:
Nero 6.6.0.18

then install package two:
http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/Patch_for_NVE3.html
reboot and you're good to go!

also I would use better media. Stick with the MIJ rule (Made In Japan). Look for the MIJ on the label of the box of spindle (Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Maxell, and some Fuji)... the only exception to this rule is Verbatim, which is top notch media but made in Taiwan/Singapore and the only non MIJs I will use.

you neglected to tell us what media you are using? and your firmware ..... when was it updated? all I can find for your drive is this:

I'll try those in the morning. Happy New Year!

The media was Verbatim, Memorex, and Sony. I recall that the Sony discs worked more often.

I updated the firmware within the last month, directly from the HP site.

Thanks!
