Quick little background on my situation. Yesterday i uninstalled IE7 (cant stand it, I use Firefox)and my user account on my comp crashed. Windows would only load to my background pic. Well after an hour with online live tech support at emachines.com (while running in 4bit safe mode, i got windows loaded enough to create a new user account, copy all of my icons and files and erased my dead account. With a few little hicups here and there im managing. Well after a lot of files being swapped around i went to do a defrag on my Hitachi 160Gig HD and noticed that it says i only have 25% free space. I know thats not true since yesterday it was AT LEAST 50%. I went to my C: drive selected all files and folders and did a properties check and there is only 58.8 Gigs of spaced used. Obviously that less than 50% used. Where the heck is it getting the info saying that i have 114 Gigs used!?!? Somebody please enlighten me!

OH i also forgot to mention that i had already cleaned out my temp folders and such, emptied the recycling bin, and purged all of the saved files from it (for both my HDs)

I'm using an emachines 5260 and had a similar problem when I made a back up of my system.

I tried a good few programmes to try and find about 100gigs of lost space.

In the end this program did the job http://www.foldersizes.com/

It found that my missing gigs was stored in an "empty" folder. This folder would show up empty when properties was selected but all my files were still in there.

When hopefully you find the culprit folder, use this link and do as IronDuke says and you should laughing. Heres the link http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t...ard-drives.html

I'm not sure if you have to purchase foldersizes or there might be a trial version available but I got mine else where *cough, torrent ,cough*

Good luck in finding your lost space.
