Hi smurf316
Burn at 8x using quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.
For in store Taiyo look for made in Japan Sony or Fuji though in some areas they are getting hard to find. Reputable online stores sell genuine Taiyo.

Not a problem smurf316
If your in the US check out supermediastore. They have good deals on the printable Taiyo Yudens.
Just need a printer like the Epson R series that prints directly on the disc.
They look good!

1. inkjet or thermal ??
2. whats a good brand??
3. should i get a printer that is designed to print dvds only??
hoping maybe you can help since you have lots of exp. in this area.

Thermal printers are $$$$$ and just the little I've seen on them are almost like lightscribe when it comes to what the picture on the disc will look like.

So don't go that route - go inkjet. The pic you print on the disc looks almost as good as the original dvd. I usually scan mine or if I don't like the one on the dvd go to a site like cdcovers.

I think only Epson sells the disc printable printers in the US - else it Cannon Pixma also print to dvd.

The Epson's - look for the R series - like R200,R220,R300,R320,R340.
They're regular printers that print to dvd's also - they have a special tray for it.
I've used the R320 & R340. I think the 200 series you can catch on sale for like $80 or less - the 300 series are around $150.

I've used them for over 2 years and would be lost without it :0)
Actually I did lose use of the R320 - DVD tray started acting up (after like a few hunderd prints on DVD's) so Best Buy replaced
with a R340 (warranties are great!)

Verbatim also sells inkjet discs too - I use them also. You're right they are good!

edit to add: Just saw this link in another thread - a refurbished R340 for $69 w/ free shipping. May be worth looking at.
