Movies play OK on Philips, nothing on Panasonic

Could someone tell me why all my movie copies, one hundred plus, play well on my older Philips DVD622/37 player, but not at all on my new Panasonic SC-HT740 Home Theater player. The Panasonic plays the audio, but I get a "Can not play this disc at this time" error with the Video. The Panasonic plays only store bought disks, although they say they also play DVD-R discs.

Details: RiData media using Nero Ver. 6.6.1.4, with the .VOB files copied.
