Hey does anyone know of good FREE software to use to rip the audio portion of a DVD to MP3/WAV? I want to use this so that I can burn my concert DVDs to a CD for the car. I tried Acala Video MP3 ripper, but all that did was transfer the DVD audio to pure 100% static!

Thanks!

Basically the process will have two steps and you will need two pieces of software to do it. But both are linked here, so no problem there.

First off you need to get the DVD audio to an AC3 file

The program to do this is here:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...tools/rejig.cfm

What you do is go to ifo mode, then you want to Demux, select your stream and you are set to go.

Then you have to convert to mp3, and the program to do that is besweet

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_...ols/besweet.cfm

I would advise getting the gui for it also, which requires a visit to their website, but it makes the program a lot easier to use for a beginner. But that has the options to convert from the AC3 file you just made to wav or mp3.

And it works great, I have my works on a cd in my car too :)

Hey Lady..

Thanks SO much for your help. Few questions:

1) Love the ripping program, especially since it shows all the chapters. It shows all 18 chapters, but it rips it in one 2 hour chunk. Why?

2) When I rip the DVD, it's saving it as a WAV file. Why?

3) BeSweet has me confused. I downloaded the gui, but it still isn't working right for me. When I start out, I have to choose where the besweetexe is, right? Then I choose the file, then the output? It asks me for an output file, NOT a destination, so what should I do?

Thanks SO much for your help!!

UPDATE***

Ok just got it to transfer (as one big file) using BeSweet...but the whole file is nothing but the sound of static! I can faintly hear the music in the background, but it's 95% static. Any idea why?

NOMAAM,

Finally got music in .wav (what I wanted). Here's how I messed up/ended with static:

below command line box of BeSweetGui v0.7b4, you'll see VOB Input, Azid, SSRC (in blue font) going across the screen. Below these, I checked the box for "Use AC3 decoder" and selected 5.1 dd-wav. At the top right in a white box titled "BeSweet Profiles," I selected DSPguru_MP3_for_Music. Finally, I clicked a green button "AC3 to WAV," which started the conversion. Took over an hour.

Here's how I ended up w/ a working audio like .wav:

checked the boxes for "Use AC3 decoder," "Downconvert Sample Rate," and selected "PCM(WAV/AIFF) from yellow drop down box under "Lame." I didn't select any "BeSweet Profiles." Finally, I clicked a green button "AC3 to WAV" to start the conversion. Took a MERE 18 MINUTES.

I prefer the less compressed .wav format. You can follow what I did and then do a .wav to mp3 conversion (there many apps out there such as Nero and other free/shareware). Or, I'm guessing you can achieve the same outcome with your desired format by doing the above but selecting "MP3" from the drop box under "Lame."

Hey Red...

So glad you figured it out! I thought it might have been some bizarre encoding on some DVDs that blocks audio ripping. I tried it on one DVD and I got static...tried it on another (did it the same way) and it turned out perfect.

I'm off to bed now, will try your method tomorrow evening. Check back then and I'll let you know what happened.

Thanks again!

Red...

Ok the problem I'm having is ripping the DVD. I am using Rejig05f, as described in the post above. When I rip the DVD using Rejig, it automatically rips it to a WAV, instead of an AC3. What are you using to rip the DVD and how are you doing it?

Also, the version of BeSweet that I have is v 0.7 b8. I can't find the same version that you have.

Thanks!

Just google "BeSweetGui v0.7b4" and you should be able to find it. But I don't think it should matter; the differences between these two versions are minor. I ripped my DVD using DVD Decrypter (b/c it was already ripped onto my HD several months ago so I didn't bother ripping with Rejig). However these ripped files are in VOB format, meaning they haven't been demuxed-video and audio have not been separated. So I just used Rejig to Demux w/ 2 pass encoding.

Red...Found the best solution yet. Check out the software at the link below. This software rips the DVD audio straight to WAV! It's an all in one deal, very easy to use. Tried it and it worked the 1st time, took about 20 mins tops.

By the way, do you burn your DVD to WAV file as one big file, or do you cut it into chapters? If you cut it, what software do you use?
