I went through Alkohol's instructions and changed the IDE from PIO to DMA. It helped alot, but it is still burning slow. It came down from about 18 hrs. to a little over 7 hours. Also I had a burn fail. I saw something in one the threads about Nvidia Gforce and problems with burning in Nero. I have a NVIDIA GeFORCE2 MX/MX400. I also have a Realtek RTL8139 (A) PCI fast ethernet adapter. I also have Roxio installed from a previous cd burner. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Also thanks Alkohol

Hello.
There is no way burning should be taking 7 hours.
Are you burning with Nero? If so, post the Nero burn log for the burn. The log file will be in one of these paths:
Nero 6: Program Files > Ahead > Nero > NeroHistory
Nero 7: Nero 6: Program Files > Nero > Nero7 > Core > NeroHistory
Each section of the log represents a recent burn attempt. Each section begins with a header followed by your name and Nero serial number. Post only the section dealing with one of these really slow burns, maybe the last section of the log if you haven't burned since. Be sure to omit your name and serial number before posting.
Also try creating an inage file as the output from your authoring software and then burn that image with ImgBurn (free).

The machine is home built and old, these are the components.
Asus K7V slot A motherboard, 800MHZ athlon processor, 756MB/133 memory, Gainward Geforce2/MX400 AGP card, WD1600 JB-00REA0 hard drive,Pioneer DVR-111D, 400 watt P/S, Windows 2000 Professional with all updates I believe.

Hi.
That system should be able to burn OK.
A 16X write speed may be too fast. A good rule of thumb is half the rated speed of the media if the burner supports it. I usually burn at 4X because the few minutes saved isn't a big deal to me and I get good quality burns at 4X.
There's a newer firmware, version 1.29, available for your burner at the link below. It may help burn the newer Sony D21 16X media.

The Roxio software and drivers (CDRAL) may be interferring with Nero so uninstall the Roxio software and run the Roxio Zapper linked below:

Try the above as well as try using ImgBurn. Use the Build mode of ImgBurn to construct an ISO image file from your folder of VOB files and then use the Write mode of ImgBurn to burn the ISO file you created.
