i have a sony vio laptop. its about 2 years old i believe. it has 512mb of ram. and a cpu of 2.66ghz. when the fan starts after 3 minutes of the laptop being turned on. its cpu drops down to 966mhz and shuts down on me. i watched the Performance under the task manager and when ever i have photoshop open and i use it. my cpu goes to 100% easily. it wasnt like this before. i dont know where the sudden drop in cpu goes towards and the sudden shutting off. anyhelp? thanks

i did that, and it seemed to run fine. but the cpu was still dropping down to like 2.43ghz and down to 966mhz and than back to 2.66ghz each time i'd check under my computer under properties. that was while i was watching a movie. but than i restarted my computer and ran photoshop 7.0 and was doing a little bit of work when it shut down on me once again. so i rebooted my computer and checked to see if that "always on" was still there and it was. so im stuck again

its charging the entire time. the battery might last about 5 minutes on its own. i was thinking about changing the battery its like 70$ but then yet again i was also thinking about getting a new laptop for when my 3rd semester gets around. but im not so sure if i changed the battery that would help me out.

how would i go about solving the situation? because i heard that opening up the laptop and doing work ur self is really hard and shouldnt be attempted unless u know what ur doing or do u think that getting that device which u put under the laptop that blows air into it would help at all. its like 2 fans i believe
