Why will my dvd/stereo player play the original soundtrack (which is in ac3) yet when I rip the movie the only choice I get is ac3? When I pick ac3 and burn the disk the soundtrack won't play. I'm using dvd decrypter, vdv2-1 and nero. My stereo is only dolby surround. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think its because the AC3 audio stream is the only available one in the dvd.

You may have noticed that on other dvds they have multiple audio streams, such as LPCM, MPA, or DTS

You need to convert the ac3 file into a 16-bit 44.1KHz WAV file which is the required format to burn Audio-CDs.

You can use a program called HeadAC3he to do this.

If AC3 is the only available audio track(and it is) why will the original play fine?

Do you have a dvdplayer and a stereo player in one?

When you burn the disk are you burning it as an audio cd?

And what program is vdv2-1?

No they are seperate units (denon stereo and pioneer dvd). I've burned discs before successfully. But this is the second time I've come across where the only choice for audio is AC3. The first time I went ahead and burned it and the audio would not play on my unit (not having AC3 or dolby digital). It did work on a freinds unit that had AC3. My point is if it will play the original movie and audio why won't it play the copy and audio? I burned it as a data disc using Nero. Sorry I mispelled DVD2to 1.

AC3 is just a compressed version of LCPM, the un compressed stereo equivalent. It should play. If its all that available, then it is all thats on the disc.

I understand that that is all that's on the disc. My point is why will the original give me sound but not a copy?

Can't see that I'm doing anything wrong. There is only one choice to pick for audio.

Try using DVD2One and see if you can get it to work with it!

Man, im not sure. It could be a problem with the disc or the ripping stage. Use elimation process by doing it in all various possible software combinations.

I don't know what I did wrong on the first 2 burns but I now have a copy that works. Maybe I didn't even click on an audio choice! Who knows! Thanks to all for the help.
