A prize of one of the chapters from the "Star Wars original trilogy" (in dvd format copied from lazer disc) or LOTR Two Towers (prerelease) will be awarded to the first member to succesfully reveal to me the best way to back these classic movies up while reserving the MOST quality possible. I just got a DVD burner and I need to know how to fit a 2-2.5hr movie on a regular DVD. Go
P.S. sorry about not posting this in the newbie area, I figured the experts would be more competitive

I don't want your "prize."
But you want the "best" way? As in best quality?
Buy yourself a Panasonic or Sony stand alone DVD recorder. Connect the S-Video cables and audio cables and let 'er rip! I've converted many of my laserdiscs into DVD's this way.

Nice suggestion, but I was given an internal Sony DRU-510A and I want to try and make that work.

What medium do you have the movie on?
If DVD,
Then, Rip to HD, using SmartRipper 2.41
or DVDDecryptor.
then IFOEdit the VOB files to a new folder, removing all extra music and subtitles.
(The LOTR2 I saw had two VTS's 01 and 03, if you IFOEdit each VOB set you should be able to rename the second set to match the next sequence of the 1st VOB set, just neatens things up)
then use DVD Shrink (freeware program?) to fit to one DVD +/-
Burn with your prefered program.
I put the 2 DVD LOTR1 (extended version) onto one DVD+r, over the weekend in a process similar to the one described by myself above.
Quality was just fine.

Magnetic, are you aware the Star Wars is on Laserdisc?
Of so, do you have a laserdisc rom for the computer? (that'd be neat to see.)

Actually while I was in Japan I was able to come across A man who did in fact have this, and yes it was neat to see. You're not jealous are you Kenny?

Well, if you have a picture of the laserdisc rom I wouldn't mind if you PM'd me. That's been a bit of a running joke at work; I've been buying laserdisc movies off people for cheap, and have joked about how I'm converting them with a laserdisc rom.
:)

And absolutly I'm giving out the prize Oriphus, and if your intrested in trading PM me.

People people people, dont mention illegal swapping of discs on the forum. That can get you all kicked off and the forum potentially into trouble. ;-)

I read it as "I already have LOTR 1&2 so I don't need yours, and I don't like Star Wars."
Oh, how what we type here can be mis-interpreted! (lol)

Hi Oriphus,
You Assumed wrong (if you offered I wouldn't trade, probably be offended), but no appologies needed, the English language is wide open to different interptption (excus my spelling, home brew beer is great, hic..., leaving the Remy VSOP special, till a good nite).
Anyway, didn't expect a prize (or want), just wanted to pass some expertise along, like yourself, what I'm really interested in is info on PS2 DVD9 backup (heard about it the other day on the forum), but looking around the forums you come up on all types of info and questions and I thought I may be able to help.
My pc's not the best but I do known how to use it.
Rgds,

Xenosaga, MGS:Substance, and the new GT are the only DVD9 PS2 games I'm aware of.
I don't have them yet, but when I do I'd prefer to know how to make my backup beforehand, don't want to risk damaging the originals, they're too costly to replace

ITs going to be a difficult one i guess, since you can compress them, a program will have to split it to two discs. What does the PS Forum say about this?

Hi Oriphus,
Have checked a few sites, no confirmed (by me) instruction for the DVD9 PS2 conversion to DVDr.
People are on about conpressing the Video, or making fake video .pss (I think) files, apparently the games may then fit onto a DVD5.
It's all speculation for me at this stage, I'll keep an eye on some of the site's until I get the lowdown.

Cheers magnetic, can you let me know when you hear what happens with them. It is confusing as to how games can be compressed, as the sites you have checked have probably said, its a lot mroe likely to be filled up with Video or something. Cutting out sequences i heard as well. Like intro scenes, etc...
