Using Nero recode 2?

Hello, I am a newbie and trying to learn.
What I want to do is make a copy of a DVD that I own.
I used Dvdfab Decrypter 3.0.5.0 and copied the file to my hard drive. I tried to use Nero burning rom to burn it to DVD but found the file was now to big to burn to a regular DVD disk.
I then tried Nero recode 2 to try and shrink the file so it will fit to a regular Dvd. It seemed to work okm then I got an error burning it. The disk would not work. I did see that Nero recode 2 did shrink the file to 4,460 MB. If I shrink it to a smaller file will it work? Is there a better way to do this, differennt programs? Does the quality of the video get compromized when I shrink it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Blusky
I have used DVD Shrink to shrink and burn large files and it worked very well. You can download Shrink for free I don't have the link for it right now but if you go to the software section of this site you will find it.

Shrink uses Nero's burn engine to autoburn - Shrink doesn't have it's own burn engine.
Post your last Nero log and we can take a peek.
It you're using Nero 6 - look here:
program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
For Nero 7:
Program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory.
It's a texxt file - just copy and paste the last one minus the serial number which usually begin w/ something like 1A, 1C or 5C.
The logs are separated by something like this:

Thanks the_goat and blinkie7 for your help. I found the txt document you asked for blinkie7, I think. I will post it here. The _ goat as soon as I get a chance I will try dvdshrink. I am including the whole file but I think all you need is the bottom part? Thanks.

Hey blusky
You can edit out the 1st post - that text just contains a doc of all Nero error codes.
For the other posts - go ahead and edit them 2 - you have your serial # in a bunch of the logs too.
Just need the last log in the last post - remove anything above the last one of these ====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ====== and edit out the serial # in the last one too - begins w/ 1A and is at the top of the log.

All these logs show successful burns but here's a few suggestions.
WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=?.?.?.?
Checks Nero's aspi to see if it shows corrupted. Go to Nero ToolKit>InfoTool>aspi tab.
If it shows no system aspi installed - ok there.
If the Nero aspi shows corrupt - replace it.
Here's a lin for it with instructions.
Recorder: <_NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD> Version: 103D
Firmware can use an update. Dell pc? The latest for a Dell is 106F.
DiskPeripheral : WDC WD3200JB-00KFA0 atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
May not be playing into but one of your hard drives is in PIO mode. Best to have all drives in DMA mode. Here's a guide to turn it back on.
Media type: DVD+R
What brand of media are you using- like Sony Sony 8x - the log only shows this. NEC don't always give the media info.
File 'Drivers\InCDfs.SYS':
Nero's InCD can sometimes cause problems. If you're not using it - uninstall it and run the clean tool
The more compression using on a disc will decrease the quality (sorry missed that question in your 1st post). If you're sticking around 70% or higher (meaning 30% compression) you should be okay depending on the resolution of your tv and size of it.
Did remember how much compression Recode showed?

Thanks for your help. I did as you suggested. I am using a TDK DVD+R media. I retried it again using Nero and this time it worked. Thanks.
Just have one more quick question if I may. What programs should I use to make backup copies of the movies that I have that would give the best quality or is the copression percentage the only immportant thing?

Glad those did the trick for ya.
Compression is one of the biggest keys to quality. Try and keep it as low as possible.
By default Recode unchecks the foreign audios but you can also uncheck the 2 channel audios just leaving the 5.1 channel audio.
Saves some on compression.
If you not interested in the menu or special features then just do movie only in Recode - this can really cut down on the compression.
Just my rule of thumb - but if Recodes shows video quality (compression) under 70% I usually check 'advanced analysis'.
It will encode in 2 passes helping to improve the quality. Takes a little longer.
Programs can make a diff too on quality but Recode is one of the best ones to use for this. It's the one I mainly use.

Yes Blinkie 7, Shrink uses Nero to burn but it does it automatically,
blusky has already stated that he has Nero so it should work.

Hi, im trying to figure out how to get the best quality of copying a dvd, where are the steps that you lose quaity? Can you lose quality in compressing the movie with DVD Shrink, or any program for that matter? also, is there a beter program to compress a movie that dvd shirnk?

Yes any compression will have some quality loss. Very little and you more than likely won't notice.
Also depends on what you play it in on big screen tv or smaller.
Smaller tv's won't notice that much.
Nero's recode is a little better one the quality w/ compression than Shrink - a little faster too.
I try and keep mine above 70%. Anything lower I might also use the advanced analysis option in Recode or the deep analysis option in Shrink. Takes a little longer - does it in 2 passes.
Removing the extra audios help w/ compression too. Or just doing movie only.
