How is the sound quality on Moonshell or other MP3 players for the DS homebrew? I was thinking about getting a Zen VISION:M but figured it would be more convenient, and cheaper, to get a M3 Simply and play MP3's from my DS. But my number one concern is sound quality. I know sound quality on the iPod isn't that great, but I listened to one and the sound was very clear, and not grainy at all, pretty cool. Needless to say, the Vision:M was mindblowing. Though I don't really need mindblowing, I'd like something pretty near the quality of the iPod. Will Moonshell fill my needs?

The sound quality isn't bad but not great. You may want to look into it some more-- the problem is the DS's sound chip itself, runs at 12-bit. Most soundcards and the ipod, zen, etc, are all 16-bit. All your sound files are 16-bit, so it dithers them to 12-bit for playback, which for some music is unnoticeable (i.e. videogame music) but others sounds not good.

Nothing can beat a stand-alone media player, I have a Zen Vision (not M) and have to say I am very impressed with the sound quality, definetly more superior to the DS.
As for the iPod, I think the sound quality is good enough, especially newer iPods, also try installing Rockbox on them, gives you much greater control over everything such as equalisers etc. I have it on my 40GB Photo.

OK, sorry to revive an old thread, just a few q's.

1. How would sound quality be with a nice set of headphones compared to, say, an iPod?

2. How is video quality? How many movies could I fit onto the highest cap card I could get?

1. great, but it's limited by it's sound card(explained above^). i use studio headphones that i bought for ~20$. they are much better than the ds speakers (obviously). only problem is that the ds isn't very loud. moonshell has the ability to force output up to 4x(using x or y button). but it sounds forced... so i just use ~1.5x. dsorganize goes up to 3x.

2.solid colors can be blocky, some small details are lost, but it's still cool. my average size is ~380MB for movies(20fps; lower size with lower fps). so divide that into 2048MB (2gigs; well, you will actually end up with ~1.98mor so gigs because of format, apps, etc.)
*note:movies at 16fps average ~365MB for me.
**note: i use my ds as my mp3 player of choice. XD the less items i have to carry, the better [for my pockets].

jgarces07:The shoulder buttons on my DS (not Lite) are not working. Any advice?
nintenut:This is going to sound a bit odd, but it works, put your lips around the trigger and blow really hard, it works.
bee_cup: My DS Lite L button don't work...
nintenut: Put your mouth on it and blow, gets the dust out, and sounds obscene!
