I am having trouble backing up the Man with the Golden Gun. I have ripped it to the hard drive without any problems (I think) but when I run it through Recode or shrink it comes up with an error before it attempts to burn it. here is the error from Nero.

What did you use to rip the title to your hard disk? DVD Fab Decrypter, DVD Decrypter? Was AnyDVD running? Did you process the ripped file through FixVTS or VobBlanker?
got a similar error with shrink as well. used dvdfab to rip to hd. when i ran into the problem, i put the files through both fix vts and Vob Blanker. after that i tried shrink and recode and still got an error. as a last attempt, i ran it through ripit4me and that appears to have worked. i still don't understand what the problem would be especially since it is an older movie.
Sometimes the newer programs, since they're designed to overcome some of the fancier protection schemes, do unintended things that cause problems. If the disk didn't have any special protection, ripping with DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink might have been sufficient in the first place. Ripit4me uses DVD Decrypter with a PSL file if necessary to overcome protections. If it's an older title, it likely doesn't have any special protection and the older programs by themselves are probably sufficient to get the job done.
Thanks Laddyboy. I appreciate the response. I guess I will use DVD Decrypter first now on older movies and move over to DVD Fab only if DVDD can't do it.
