Can someone explain in idiot terms how to erase a dvd+rw. Software I can buy or download? I bought DVDXCopy express and after working out the kinks, it works like a charm but I can't erase rewritable DVDs. RecordNow won't do it (and I had to uninstall it because it interfered with DVDXCopy). If I right click on the drive to format, I get a message about encrypted/commercial material. Is there some software I can buy or download that will do the job? As suggested, I downloaded Nero 6 but even with "full erase" I get a dialog box telling me that it isn't a rewritable disc when, in fact, it is. I've tried with Memorex, Sony and HP DVD+rws. My computer is an HPa250n operating off windows XP. Thanks!..Gerry

Thanks for answering my post. I did as you suggested: downloaded Nero, tried full erase but I keep getting a box telling me that it isn't a rewritable disc...which it is. Any suggestions?? Thanks!! Gerry D.

In that case you have probably got bad discs - some RW's fail to re-erase after one or two times because the top layer has become damaged but this is usually a reflection of the quality of the disc. It's always best to use quality RW's. I only use them for testing if something appears to go wrong.

Hello! Thanks for answering. I was using SONY and Hewlett Packard DVD+RWs. Do you recommend a particular brand over another? Thanks...Gerry

Well those should be OK infact but Verbatim are probably the most reliable. I presume your DVD burner is a +R/RW and that you used this drive to burn the discs originally? It sounds infact as though you may have a problem with the burner in that the laser may be damaging the disc slightly when burning. I presume it is working OK otherwise and that the burn speed is correct?

are you sure its a rw disk because nearly all blank media has a rw sign on them but it has to say dvd+rw as the title of the disk

Went to the store after work and you're absolutely right; DVD+RW and DVD+R RW are not the same. I feel like such a dope!...I've been trying to erase non rewritable discs for three days! Thanks much, G-4CE, for helping out a newbie! Thanks also, Discmania, for telling me about Nero. Deep erase worked like a charm (with the right disc!) Haven't had a chance to really try Nero out though. Anyway, thanks a lot for all the help guys....Gerry
