I recently purchased a number of 8 in 1 DVD's (8 movies to 1 DVD)in Mymanar (Burma). The quality of these DVD's is very good on a 42" plasma.

My question is what compression technique are they using?

I can playback and copy these without any problems and they are recognised by all ROM's and DVD players. They are approx 8GB in size and I was able to compress them using Shrink.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the compression technique liked to be used to achieve this

Tks.

Compressing 8GB onto a 4.7GB disc will make you lose quite a bit of quality. If you want to back-up the disc I suggest DVD+R Dual Layered. which can hold 8.5 GB. Making the picture look just as good as the original.

chubbyInc its obvious that this person isnt asking about how to backup at that quality.

they are asking how the production company got 8 films onto one dual layer disc at such good quality. a question which i do not know the answer to.

have a few questions though which could give you the answer, how long are the films?? and are they high action?

Tks falonga - chubbyInc was a little off track.

The movies are in VOB format and generally a bit under 1GB in size. They include cartoon, action, comedy compilations etc - e.g. on one disk I have the following movies with menus:
Click
Art School Confidential
Twiches
ACES
The Chanpagne Gang
Lover Boy
Going on
Van Wilder

The quality is not a 100% but very acceptable approx 85 to 90%.

Again I would be interested in knowing the probable compression technique used.

that sounds quite impressive.

Are the discs dual layer double sided? or just single sided?
if they were double sided then the compression technique is standard,
but if only single sided then there should be a noticeable drop in quality

Colw you seemed to have answered your own question somewhat. You said the disc was a DL 8GB DVD and that the 8 movies were about 1 GB. Here's info on how to burn 2 movies to a 4.7 GB dvd. I assume 8 (1GB)movies could be put on a DL blank with Shrink also.

To do two movies on a 4.7 or 9 DL disc using Shrink
