About Schmidt sync prob after audio converted 44100

Having obtained a copy of About Schmidt (Xvid) I am trying to convert it to VCD. Converted audio to 44100 with Goldwave ready for VCD encoding with TMPGenc. OK all going smoothly up to this point. After encoding the audio is at least 10 seconds out of sync!! I haven't encountered such a big time difference, can anybody help?? Thanks
