Hi, I've just bought the 5.5 gen video iPod (although I live outside the US, I had a friend buy one for me, also because it's cheaper there, so I have the american version) and although not as bad as the european version from what I hear, I'm not so keen on the volume on mine either. I've looked up goPod to uncap the volume limit, but apparently it doesn't support 5.5 gens yet. Is there a program that works with the 5.5 gens? Do they actually work? Thanks

I understand your concern, but no worries, this is not because I wanna head bang my way into deafness, it's just that I ride the train every morning and it's just a little too much for the ipod limitations, also, I can't ever get a good and clear sound in my car system because the system is limited to the ipod restriction, something which can cause more hearing problems: underbanded sub-human hearing radio bombardments. The truth is, I can't even hear a comedy show when there are two other people talking in the same room! I've got sensitive ears too, I'm an active member for a group that supports reduction of noise polution in my city (Buenos Aires). Trains, old buses, excesive number of trucks and the like, are really bothering, although even with all that, I still stand strong that I can't freaking hear a show when someone else is talking. There's a difference from going deaf to sounds around you being way louder than your player.

Thanks, although as I have pointed before, as far as I know it does not work with 5.5th generations, and that's why I'm here in the first place.
Thanks anyway

Is this going to get into one of those "Yes it does, NO it doesn't" arguments. Why? Because i've tried GoPod 1.4 over and over again, with different installers, and even the bare code, and it WILL NOT recognize my 5.5gen ipod Video (with the latest firmware, formatted to windows, hard-drive enabled, no-syncing and still no luck!!!!).

I too am not interested in having my Pod turned up so load that my ears bleed, however I do sympathise with IonÅphis in that my Pod is SO quiet in my car that even with the volume turned way up on the headunit, I can hear next to nothing. This is working from a jack-to-jack lead from headphones to Aux in.

Strangely enough, all was well until a week ago when my volume levels suddenly reduced dramatically.

Have tried EVERYTHING to sort it out, but no joy!!!! Annoying is not the word!!!!

hey r4, actually I've already solved the problem. Apparently the goPod people are waiting to have both 5.5G iPods and 2G nanos solved before releasing goPod 1.5. However on the ipodhacks site, one of the release members of the goPod iniciative has already cracked the 5.5G ipod version, now all they are waiting for is the 2G nano.

All it takes to uncap them is 5 minutes of your life, a hex editor (although any will do, i strongly recommend getting and keeping the one they use for any other problem or anything else you later might wanna hex into) and some patience. It's not very hard to do it, but doubpe check your numbers and steps. You don't wanna end up having to format your iPod, that's a whole other story and more annoying.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.....

Even I hadn't fiddled with Hexadecimal code before, but following your 10 Easy Steps got me through and resolved the problem. My iPod now BOOOOMS!!!!! Sounds superb in the car (which was the main reason for performing this in the first place) and it's raised the max voume level far above what it needs to be set at. So, I can now manually set the limit far less than I needed to have it before, leaving not only the option for a raise IF required, but also meaning that my normal volume bar very rarely rises above about 50%.

Again, thanks SO much.

LOL, no problem. Just out here redirecting some attention where it is needed. Now if I could just find how to get the ipod games through a torrent and working onto my ipod, I'd be a really happy soul. I know we're not supposed to talk about that stuff around here, so IF anyone has any information on a working work-around, please PM me.
