i use virtualdub to extract the audio from avi files as when i encode with tmpgenc to mpeg it never does the sound, a friedn recommended using virtualdub to extract the sound as a wav then using it as the audio input when encoding using tmpgenc, however now whenever i try to burn a vcd/ svcd the sound is horribly out of sync

anyone got any suggestions

If the audio is fine when playing back the AVI I seriously would not recommend seperating the audio from the video. When seperating the audio from the video this will cause major out of sync problems.

Try encoding the AVI without seperating the audio and see if you still have the out of sync problem.

Post the results.

I have had the problem with TEMPGenc not doing the audio from the AVI. My audio is always mp3. What is your audio?

Glad to hear everything worked out. I am having the same problem, my AVI file is fine but once I encode with TMPG the audio goes out of sync.

Could you kindly give me a step by step on extracting a WAV with VirtualDub I would REALLY appreciate it!

Thanks alot

I 'opened video file' in VirtualDub and chose save WAV.

Then in TMPG I uploaded the AVI as video and the wav as audio, then started encoding. and the audio is still out of sync?

I have found the easiest way to correct this is to strip the audio stream out and re-encode it to MP3 using VirtualDub and the Lame MP3 codec.

Download and install the Lame MP3 codec. Load the file in VirtualDub and click on the Audio tab. Click Full processing Mode and then compression. Select the Lame codec and then the attributes to the left.

Click save as wav and the resulting mp3 file will be produced. Now use this as your audio stream in TMPGEnc and everything should be OK.

Yep, that would work, but even though the lame encoder is by far the best IMHO, there is still quality loss in the transcoding so its always best to find a way to use the source audio!
