Hey guys, hope you're all good.

I've previously used Nero Vision Express to successfully burn .avi files to DVD+R but over the past few days i've encountered some problems which I hope someone can help me with.

During transcoding of two particular .avi files (which play fine in a movie player on my PC) they both freeze at a particular point in the film and I have to cancel the transcode as nothing happens no matter how long I leave it. So I just put this down to Nero not liking these particular files.

I tried to burn an .avi which I haven't tried to before. Everything was fine and the transcode was successful, the burn started but when the progress reached four bars it went back to zero and ejected the disk.

Here's the error log is that's any help:

Hi.

Quote:
Nero API version: 6.6.1.4
This is a lousy version of Nero 6. Use version 6.6.0.18.

- Write down your Nero serial number.
- Uninstall the current version.
- Run the Nero 6 Clean Tool:
http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html
- Install version 6.6.0.18 from the two links below:
Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Ner....0.18_no_yt.exe
Package 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Your burner's firmware can be found here:

It's possible you're trying to burn too fast. A good rule of thumb is to burn at half or less the rated speed of the media.

You're using Ricoh media which isn't top quality but better than some. Good quality media is made by Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden (available online), and Made in Japan labeled Fuji and Sony.

Edit: text added below:

You might also try burning with ImgBurn (free).

Also try ConvertXtoDVD for doing conversions. It's better than Nero most of the time.

Thanks so much for your help laddyboy.

I was fiddling around with some things and i've just successfully burnt a dvd, I read a thread with a similar problem to mine and someone suggested disabling the smart encode option, I did this and it seems to have resolved the issue.

Computers really do have minds of their own!

I'm scared to change anything at the minute in case it stops working again, but if Nero throws another tantrum i've printed out your advice in case, I have a feeling i'll be needing it!

Thanks again

Take the advice given by laddyboy, believe him when he says 6.6.1.4 is a "shocker" , I also recommend rolling back to 6.6.0.18 as per his post.
