hello .. i'm so new to this .. and i have been tryin to burn my back up movies and have wasted so much media doing so .. can some 1 please help .. hope i'm putting the correct useful info for some 1 to help ..

ok i have installed the more stable version of Nero 6.6.0.18 that was suggested and i'm still gettin the same writing file to disc failed message and i am using a Maxell DVD-R 8x media .. and it will burn about 15 to 20% then stops with the message ... i am so so lost i have wasted about 50 media disc tryin to understand how to burn dvd's... please please help .. below is the new error message log

Direct burning: true
Turn off burn at once - it's on the last screen in Recode.
Let Nero transcode the files temporarily to the hard drive 1st then it will start the burn.
DiskPeripheral : ST380012A atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
Turn DMA back on for your hard drive. Here's a guide: link.
Your hard drive is on the primary ide channel so that's the one you'll need to uninstall.

just wanna say thank you so so much for ur input and help that u provided.. changing my DiskPeripheral : ST380012A atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off to the ON .. was the key to the whole thing wish i had known this 50 media disc ago .. but everything works perfect and burns very fast now ... hope that if any 1 that is going through the same problem reads this tread.. very helpfull

Karen is this DMA turned back on via same means as driver DMA...I was unaware of the significance of having this on also, thanks for the "heads up"

Glad that did the trick for ya.
I'd check it every so often - but you can usually tell when a drive slips into PIO by the decrease in speed.
@gwendolin
DMA is direct memory access - a faster transfer rate. For the pc to perform better and lessen problems all drives hard, optical should be in this mode.
Yep you got it - you would turn it back on the same way - uninstalling the channel which it's on - rebooting and letting windows do it's thing and reinstall.
