Hey guys. I'm new to the boards. I've been using Nero to burn DVD files for over a year now with the same brand blank DVDR media without many problems. However, in the last couple weeks, I'd say I wasted in the neighborhood of 7-15 dvd's due to a Nero burn error message. I am now only able to write to cd's but not dvd's. I've attempted to use two known successful brands or media to no avail. I restored my computer to its state before the errors and reinstalled Nero software to no avail. Stead of beating my head against the monitor, I decided to hit up the knowledge spring that is the afterdawn.com community. Thanks in advance. Here is the Nero burn error message I receive:

if all those solutions dont help(they should help), change to better media,
Sonys are ok but u can't get better than Verbatims and Taiyo Yudens

I used Nero's simulation feature in an attempt to rule out the use of faulty media being the cause of the errors. I used Nero's cleanpack, and used nero's registry cleaner and then re-installed Nero. Still get a burn error message. The burn progresses to about 4 percent then gives an "error reading data" message. What gets me is that prior to a couple of weeks ago, there was nothing I couldn't get around as far as burn errors. This was the latest log:

This simulation burn indicates you are STILL using 6.6.0.8 so therefore you havent implemented the suggestions made, we can only OFFER fixes, it's up to you to implement them.

Believe it or not I did install the updates you suggested but still received the error message. The log I just posted was the latest error message I was given AFTER uninstalling Nero, AGAIN. When I posted yesterday saying that I tried your suggestions I did not save the error log. I'm now reinstalling the updates you suggested to see if after wiping out my registry (which undoubtedly also uninstalled the updates you suggested) and reinstalling Nero I see a difference.

the source being dvd files I had previously successfully written to disc. I also tried moving the files to different drives. I have external and internal drives. No success.

OK so the files are already written to DVD and you are trying to back them up,from this DVD, is this correct

No. I have the dvd files on my hard drive. I previously (approximately 2 weeks ago) copied the dvd files from my hd to a blank dvd media successfully. I still have the dvd files on my hd and they are what I was attempting to write to disc in the error logs I posted to this board.

OK if you still had the DVD I was going to suggest using Nero Recode to back them up, sorry I cannot explain why it is failing. Do you have a RW DVD that you can try to burn these files to...saves wasting so many discs.

Since you say you've tried to move these files and can't, they may have been corrupted somewhere along the line since they were created. Can you rip another dvd and burn it? Or is it just these files you can't? Nero may be working fine.

haha. No I meant to say that I copied the dvd files from one drive, which I am fairly sure are not corrupted, to another drive in an attempt to rule out the drive somehow being the problem (unless all my drives are corrupt which I doubt as I have had no other problems with them and after running scandisk on them having no errors reported). I also attempted using different dvd files/different movies. No success. I think my next step is going to be to replace my DVDR drive and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

One last thing to mention is that I attempted to write those files to disc using a different dvd writing software (a freeware that I can't remember the name of as I recently did a system restore) and I was able to write to disc, but the files were funky, like they were seperated by chapters and I had to hit the repeat button on my dvd player in order to watch the movie. So irritating to watch a movie with blips between chapters.
