I've updated Nero, flashed my NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG, installed DVD region Free etc, and still cannot get this to work. The problems started when i bought these DVD-R discs from Sony. I haven't tried any other disc's since the problems started. The weirdest part is that the error log says that DMA is turned off, but both DVD region and device manager says that its turned on.

Anyway, here's the log. Hope somebody can give some input, because i've been working all night on this.

you said you flashed your drive? how come you have a very old firmware version of 2.16? update it to 2.58 found here: LINK

burning too slow is just as bad as burning too fast. you have good disk (Sony 16x, DVD-Rs) you can burn up to half the rated speed of the disk, 8x! not 2x as you have chosen.

you are burning too close to the outer edge of the disk. change the amount to no more than 4400MB.

some Nero versions are buggy..... I know about version 6..... I don't know which version of Nero 7 is the best version to use. maybe some other members can advise on what version is better than the one you are using now. but follow all the advise I gave you and maybe you'll have better luck. welcome to Afterdawn.

For me personally, I like 7.5.9.0...there seems to be a few "issues" still , (in my opinion) with 7.7.5.1

I read the guides and concluded that the 2.16 one was the correct one for my drive. That was wrong? I've downloaded the 2.58 one, but when i double click the .exe file i get an error message:

Target NEC-3500A is not found correctly

I tried to explain that. DMA is on as far as i can see. I dont get the same menues as all the guides (getting a NVIDIA parallel ATA controller in device manager). It states that BIOS should set DMA, and it verifies that ULTRA DMA 2 - Ultra33 is turned for my NEC drive. I've also run DVD region free and it also states that DMA is turned ON, so i'm confused.

1, 2 and 2.4 are the only options Nero gives me while using these sony discs. With the old brand i always got alot more options.

I dont know if this will help, but as I said I dont like the latest version of Nero. I would uninstall your current version, run this clean tool, http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then install 7.5.9.0 from here
http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?1881

With the firmware update, go here

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1904 and then install a later version, say 2.19 and if that takes then try for an even later version...kinda sneak up on the latest one.

Nvidia drives are notorious for showing up as being OFF

Thanks,

I'll give that a go when I get back from work. I think I'm gonna stop by a shop and buy some of the old brand dvd-r's and test with them as well.

Cheers,

I think that you having so much problems with the Sony 16x media and can't burn higher than 2x is the problem with your drive. Here is your drive: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?...uresandcomments
and it should be able to recognize those 16x media, but obviously it's not since you can't burn more than 2x with them. did you try other software and see if it's Nero that is causing the problem? the firmware update might rectify the problem. Hope that you can update to a newer version of firmware. good luck.
