Hi everyone!
I recently got a LG 4020B (3 weeks ago) and it installed and worked fine. For about the first week, I was getting about 6x when ripping DVD's for backup using DVD Decrypter. Now, the drive averages between 1x and 3x (mostly 1-2x though) when using DVD Decrypter. I tried ripping the same DVDs that I used to get around 6 or 7 speed with, and all it manages is the slow 2 or sometimes 3x.
This is a real pain, because it can take me up to 45 minutes to rip a disc, when it originally took me only 10 minutes!
Burning, it seems fine. Will burn DVD-RW in around an hour and DVD-R in 30 minutes.
Should I take it back? Or is there a fix for my problem?
Thanks for any advice in advance =)
PS - Firmware version = A107

lol - Good man - a good decision you have made, not dishing the LG in anyway, but the Pioneer DVR105 is a quality writer - i use it :-)

Ahh, good to hear i'm following in wise footsteps =)
One question about my new drive though. I know that it's limited to 2x when ripping for backups. Is there any firmware I should update to, that will let me rip at the true 12x the drive boasts?
Current firmware = 1.30
Thanks alot Oriphus

Just to jump in a little late here, I have the same LG burner and had the same issues. I ended up having to turn my DMA setting on, and now I rip at 6-7X all the time.

But the Pioneer is a better burner; in that it can burn at 4X.

Yeah, there is still an ongoing confusion over the DMA/PIO mode options. Mine worked fine in both. It is strange...

yeah, i've found a few people who've had similar (but not quite the same as me) problems with the LG. especially with DVD-RAM drivers - which i never installed anyway.
i found it to be great for the first week or so, but it just seemed to give up the ghost!
like Oriphus said - not to rubbish the LG in any way, i'm just glad to have solved the problem.
good luck with the LG, ken0042 =)

I have had mine for a couple of weeks and have not had a problem yet. It was built only a month before I got maybe they fixed some of the problems. By the way how do you find out what firmware you have?
