dvd x platinum does not copy-protect movies. It does the opposite.

Yes, MsLoveLee there is a way to encrypt your movies with CSS, but that is expensive and is easily broken by any of dozens of freeware and payware programs, including the aforementioned (and relatively weak) dvd x platinum.

You will need an "authoring" DVD drive like the Pioneer DVR-S201. That's about $1500 though you can sometimes find them for less on eBay. You will need a CSS license, which is $15500 a year. You will need "Authoring" DVD-Rs, which allow the CSS block to be written to (regular DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs do not). Those are about $1 a piece. Finally, you'll need a high-end software package that places CSS encryption. Sonic Scenarist will do that, but it isn't cheap at a starting price of $5000.

Alternatively, you can have your discs remastered and pressed, but that usually needs to be done in bulk and isn't that cheap either.

You can also use structure-based protection, which essentially involves intentionally damaging a part of the disc and constructing your IFOs to attempt to read the damaged part; if the read fails, the disc is probably the original unless the person doing the copying happens to damage the exact same sector of the disc that was damaged in the original. This is a bit beyond my skill level, but, like CSS, is easily defeated by any of a number of freeware DVD-copying applications like Ripit4me, DVDFab Decrypter, or AnyDVD; even old tools like DVD-Decrypter can be used to bypass this if used properly.

In other words, every one else here is right: You cannot effectively copy-protect your DVDs while maintaining compatibility with DVD players.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

It's very simple. To get your files to a disc, your pc needs to copy them to the disc. If you could put something in one of the files to prevent copying, your pc will not be able to copy it to the disc.

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.
