After reading many articles, I finally succeeded. I succesfully backup my dvd. Since I was using the articles on Doom9.org, I was transferred to http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Derrow/copy.html for a good burning guide. And since I've been using Nero for quite a while, I tried Nero first. But no such luck. It became a dvd-rom movie, because my stand-alone wouldn't play. But when burning it with Prassi PrimoDVD, it worked fine.
So if these 2 sites (and several others too) don't work, what could I be missing.
How do you guys (and girls) burn a good dvd-r with Nero?

I don`t know if it is necessarily the version but maybe more the method of using Nero ?
I use mpucoders version, actually I thnk it is Derrow`s and had no probs yet
I follow the steps and make sure I check all the right boxes, one thing I did notice was that if you do other burning discs with Nero it holds some preferences, so each time you do the DVD you have to make sure you check through all the preferences for DVD
one more small thing, do you create a "AUDIO_TS" file on the root of the disc with no content ?
I find this helps with compatibility,
If in doubt use Prassi to check disc in "Test Only" mode then burn with Nero and see what happens ?

You trying to do a dvd-5 or a dvd-9? If you're want dvd-5 use the guide they have on afterdawn it works great. As for nero I had a slight problem (just got mine yesterday)it got jittery at the end. Anyway I clicked the option "Determine max speed" and it fixed the problem. It might/might not be able to fix yours but it works. Oh and yeah besure to create AUDIO_TS folder just for compatablity

Thanks for your replies guys, and sorry I didn't respond any sooner...

I do put an empty AUDIO_TS folder in there, and I follow Derrow's guide step by step. And when I burn it with Prassi, everything works fine. So the tests are good too, but still no succes with Nero.
What I haven't tried is the guide here on Afterdawn, I will try it tonight if I can.

And for Bhawksq : I didn't know empty dvd-9 existed, so I bought dvd-5s.

Empty dvd-9s don't exist. But copy dvd-5s and split of cutting of the menu's for dvd-9s are obviously differnt so I was just wondering which method you were using.
