I'm hope this is not a duplicate thread, but I've searched the net (and this forum) for hours and hours without finding any solution to my problem.
I've recorded a TV series on my DVD recorder. I want to save it, and decided to encode it to DivX (using TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress). Since I live in Sweden, we use PAL 720x576. This was how it was recorded, and TMPGEnc correctly identifies the resolution (it also says the source is interlaced, which I'm not sure about as the preview looks strange, but I'm not able to change it to see what happens). I want the output DivX to have the same resolution, but as soon as I click the "Start encode" button, the label changes from "DivX 720x576, 25 fps" to "DivX 720x480, 25 fps". I have tried all different combinations of source and target aspect ratios, but the only difference is where and how big the black bars will be, compressing the picture size in some way.
I have tried to change the output resolution just to see if other resolutions will change as well. Some does, others not. For example, 720x480, 720x400, 360x576 and 352x576, 360x288 and 352x288 will remain the same, while 720x500 becomes 720x480, 704x576 becomes 704x488 and 700x576 becomes 700x492.
I have tried to redo the process from the beginning, and also change every other setting I could find (such as bitrate, quality and framerate).
The best solution I have for the moment is to tell TMPGEnc to use NTSC pixel ratio and PALframerate, which will eliminate the black bars, but I don't think this would be an optimal solution. If anyone has a suggestion on what to do, it would be great. Thanks in advance!
