Hi Folks,

I'm brand new to this ripping thing and hope I'm not testing your patience by asking a newbie question.

I've been reading the forum....specifically the posts by Alkohol regarding the free programs to use.

I downloaded RipIt4Me and DVD Shrink and VTSfixit and ImgBurn.

Cruised right along this weekend thinking this was slicker than sliced bread.

Took a look at a finished movie tonight..(Michael) and along the bottom it said "evaluation period ended. Please purchase from Elecard.com"

So, ruling by the judges,please....Is this freeware or not.

Thanks for helping.

Pat

Hi WaPat
I'll be gentle :)

Yes those programs you downloaded are freeware. Nothing to do w/ elecard as far as I know.

Looks like elecard is another piece of software that does conversions, video editting etc. Not sure if it does copy protected movies.

Did you ever have any of their products installed?

Thanks for replying, binkie7.

I've enjoyed reading your other posts on the forum.

I've not consciously put anything by Elecard on my machine. I did a search for the name and nothing came up.

In your opinion, should I uninstall all the software and re-download.

If so, could you point your finger to a site where I might find "clean" copies?

The movies not only have that annoying message on startup, but all through the movie there is a small box of nine squares in the upper righthand corner. Looks, for the life of me, like a tic-tac-dough box.

Ugh.

Thanks again,

Pat

It's on two that I've checked, blake123.

Michael and Mississippi Burning.

Ripped the movies only.

Would that make a difference?

No doing movie only won't make a difference.

It's very odd that you get watermark - trial over bit. I've never seen anything like that.
Here's a list of the different software and plugins elecard has that you might want to do a search for - see if anything pops out in add/remove programs too.

An uninstall would be a good idea.
You can download from http://www.ripit4me.org/
It's the one I use.

Keep us posted!

Thank you both for your replys.

I'm gonna keep pluggin' away and it'll get fixed.

If this is the worst thing that happens to me in my "ripping" career, then I got off pretty easy.

I think you have a long and prosperous ripping career ahead of you :)

It's almost like a plugin from elecard is being used w/ RipIt4Me somehow - I just don't know how. RipIt4Me doesn't use anything but fixvts, shrink & decrypter.

AnyDVD & Clone are great - not free but does have a 21 day free trial.

Another free way would be DVDFab Decrypter. Rip to your hard drive with that then open those files in Shrink.

aD can't offer ripit4me to download due to the laws in Finland though they still have Shrink as a download.

Let us know the outcome or if you need anymore help.
