I am building a computer for audio recording & I'm not sure what processor to go with. How does a Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz comopare to Dual Core 2.66Ghz. Is a Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz with bus speed 1066Mhz about the same as a Dual Core 3.4Ghz with bus speed 800Mhz. Thanks

the core 2 duo is dual core so... anyways the thing is ure probably confusing it with pentium d (named pentium dual core) and yes a core 2 duo beats a "pentium dual core" clocked at 3.4ghz even the lowest one can beat the pentium d so yes buying a core 2 duo is a very good choice

I agree pcworld did some speed test that confirmed the core 2 duo is better. Its the first big gain lately for Intel over AMD.

agreed ,the core 2 duo stomps all over other cpus at the min and is the only way to go if you are buying/building a pc right now.

But would a Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz be twice as fast as a Dual Core 2.66Ghz?

i would go with the core2duo, a 2.66GHz model will be plenty for anything you plan to do. I only have the 2.13GHz (overclocked to 2.5GHz per core) model and have no problems with anything
2.66GHZ Core2Duo is like havig a regualr processor with 5.32GHZ
