converting .vob to .mpg

I need to convert some DVD files (.vob) to mpg2 files so I can do some editting. I'm using an editting program that will not accept .vob.
I've ripped the DVD using DVD Decryptor, cut out the piece I needed using Virtual Dub MPG2. But now I can not get them saved as mpg. I tried using Chopper XP, and was succesful at getting mpg, but I'm getting no audio. What am I doing wrong?

Try a (free) program called VOB2MPG. It will take your VOBset and output a seamless mpeg in minutes: http://www.svcd2dvd.com/downloads.aspx (2nd program down).
