assuming your laptop has a wireless card built in sounds to me like you need to switch your wired router for a wireless model

yeah, i agree. If you have a wireless card in it then get a wireless router. If you have problems with a strong signal where you use it then you can always get a signal extender. only option you have with a wired router (or no wireless card in the laptop) is a very long cat5 ethernet cable directly hooked between the router and laptop.

If you mean a USB wireless card, go for it. Most of the stuff being sold now is on the 802.11n standard, which is more secure than the older "g" stuff, but the g is about half the price of the "n" stuff. Just make sure you enable encryption, etc. on your router or your neighbors will love you for giving them free internet.

I strongly recommend getting Dlink products.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

never used the USB type myself so i would read up on them and make sure they do what they should and have a strong signal.

this one seemed to get good customer feedback

as far as wireless routhers i prefer Linksys meself. I have a WRT54GS
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...&Sort=3&Recs=10
and there are some linksys versions. I actually have one of the WUSB54G adapters that came free with my router, although i have never had a use for it yet so i can not rate it. Just use the site i linked you to and read customers reveiws, then you can find and buy it somewhere that ships to you.
