hey i was just wondering if anybody could help me out with this .. now when im using my dvd drive to convert video or anything that involves conversion my computer shuts down about halfway through the process basiclly the idea that i have got is that my power supply may be acting up is there anyway that this can be fixed or does it require to be replaced thanks

sorry i forgot to do that my specs are
p4 3000,1 gig ddr ram, nvidia 6600gt, DVD+RW, 200 gig hdd, asus mainboard. not to sure of the model but it is a fairly basic model.
and i think i have a 240w power supply that might b the problem but this has never happend before it has only recently just started to much up .. but any further help would b great thanks
240w is a bit small but with those componants it should be enough. do you have any usb devices, fans or any thing else that takes power from your pc (anything new)?
it could be overheating, speedfan can tell what your temps are in realtime. this will allow you to see how high they go. im not sure what the shutdown temp is for your cpu but if its getting up to 60c(ish) its too hot.
edit
cleaning any dust and fluff from any vents and from your heatsink and fan will help you keep your temps down. routing any (and all) cables away from your major componants will help aid the airflow through your case.
