i cant seem to get it past 3k per second i know i have aol but come on that is outrageously slow

What program are you using? Are you connected via 56k? cable? Are you running a firewall? Is this with everything you try to download? Try to downloading something common to see what speeds you can pull.

Remember p2p downloading is also based on the source's connection and how many people are uploading too.

Maybe you can use BT Engine, it can auto-config your client's setting.
